chainflex cables in the energy chain - for this purpose, we originated a guarantee programme for all chainflex cables from the catalogue.” There are three different steps of certification. In the

gus has recently introduced its chainflex Guarantee Club, where machine builders and equipment

manufacturers can receive a guarantee via certification that goes far beyond the basic legal conditions. “We guarantee durability and functional safety of

our cables to give customers planning security,” said Justin Leonard, director, igus. “The aim is to give binding statements about the durability of igus

Inceptor plays a blinder

‘Orange’ status, the guarantee comprises 18 months or five million double strokes, the ‘Silver’ status, 24 months or seven and a half million double strokes, and the ‘Gold’ status customers obtain a guarantee of 36 months or ten million double strokes. An igus engineer certifies and, according to the guarantee level, trains the manufacturer’s assembling and engineering personnel free of charge. igus also offers more performance within the scope of

the chainflex Guarantee Club. For example, comprehensive consulting with respect to good practice handling, and installing cables at the user’s premises as well as reducing process costs and optimisation of complete energy chain systems. www.igus.co.uk/chainflexGC

ILLUSTRATING ENERGY CHALLENGES

More than 90 of Scolmore Group’s Inceptor LED Downlights are providing a low energy lighting solution for Fleetwood Town FC’s new Red & Whites Café Bar - the latest addition to the conference facilities at the Highbury Stadium. Inceptor was chosen for its

energy saving properties, as well as the ease and speed of installation due to the integrated Click Flow wiring system. Contractor, Kevin O’Toole

from West Lancashire Electrical, was responsible for the installation of the products. He commented, “We chose the Inceptor LED downlights predominately because of the exceptional value they represent for a lighting product of such high quality and performance. “The fact that a five year

warranty is offered made it an easy decision. Another key advantage for us as contractors is the quick installation method, which was possible because of the pre-wired driver and flow connector. This allowed us to test the installation then simply click the fittings into place ready for the final commissioning.” www.scolmore.com

Power management company Eaton is offering its customers a new whitepaper that illustrates the challenges involved in all aspects of energy efficiency and describes potential savings. In Europe the issue of energy efficiency is currently a major concern for the majority of producing companies. With the introduction of the ErP Directive 2009/125/EC by the EU, these companies are faced with the challenge of further reducing their energy consumption and thus also the CO2

emissions within the industry. Accounting for over two thirds of the electrical power consumed,

electrical drives represent the lion’s share of energy consumption in industrial manufacturing. Considerable energy savings are therefore still possible in electrical drive engineering in particular. This can be effectively leveraged through the intelligent use of automation in conjunction with motor starters or variable frequency drives. The key factor here is finding the right solution for the application. In his 12 page White Paper entitled ‘Successful Implementation of the ErP

Directive’, Dipl.-Ing. Heribert Joachim, senior project manager Drives at Eaton, illustrates these potential savings in electrical drive engineering. Interested readers wishing to find out more about how to increase energy

efficiency and reduce operating costs can obtain the White Paper as a free pdf download after completing a short registration process at www.eaton.eu/publications. www.eaton.com

UK cabling manufacturer AEI Cables has been acquired by Middle East- based Ducab organisation. Under the terms of the agreement, AEI Cables will become part of the Ducab organisation and will continue to manufacture cables from its Birtley base, trading as AEI Cables Limited, securing 200 jobs. Clive Sharp, CEO of AEI Cables,

said, “This is very positive news for our employees and our customers. Ducab is a world leader in cable manufacturing and brings a wealth of experience, expertise and technical support to give us additional resource. Joining Ducab offers new opportunities in terms of the products and markets we can serve.” www.aeicables.co.uk

Test and certification group, TRaC Global, has announced an expansion of its testing service offering for the aerospace, defence and rail industries with the unveiling of a new LDS V984 Electromagnetic Shaker at its Warwick facility. TRaC Global is one of only two

independent testing houses in the UK to offer this large vibration system for shock and vibration testing to replicate the harsh environmental conditions that products might encounter in their respective fields of operation. www.tracglobal.com

Electrical Safety First is the new name of the UK’s only charity focusing on electrical safety. Formerly known as the Electrical Safety Council or ESC, the organisation’s rebrand follows 18 months of extensive research and consultation, to determine how the public, industry, government and other stakeholders, viewed the organisation. “Our rebrand as Electrical Safety

First has nothing to do with vanity and everything to do with relevance”, said Phil Buckle, who has been director general of the charity since 2009. “To fulfil our core objective - to protect people from the dangers of electricity - the public needs to know who we are and how we can help.” www.electricalsafetyfirst.org.uk

SUPPLYING ELECTRICITY TO THE NORTH WEST

Tratos has won a £1m Multiple Awardees Contract from Electricity North West for the supply of 132kv cables. The cables, designed and

manufactured in accordance with specification ES400C14, will be used across the Electricity North West 132kV distribution network, which connects 2.4 million properties and more than five million people in the region to the National Grid. Its network covers a diverse range of terrain, from

isolated farms in rural areas such as Cumbria, to areas of heavy industry and urban populations including Manchester. Tratos’ product range includes

single and multi-conductor high temperature, fire resistant, low smoke & fume, rubber, energy cables from low voltages up to 132kV, railway, motorway, data, fibre optic, oil & gas, shipwiring, drum reeling and telecommunications cables. www.tratos.co.uk
