Grampian Prison Pentair Thermal Management is providing Raychem hot water temperature maintenance system for new prison
entair is providing its Raychem HWAT hot water temperature maintenance system for the bathroom units at the new HMP Grampian prison, which will replace the grim Victorian jails at Peterhead and Craiginches in Aberdeen. Designed and constructed by Skanska, who used its in-house skill to develop the structural and civil design as well as undertaking the installation of mechanical and electrical services, the new prison will house both male and female prisoners and accommodate both adults and young offenders. The bathroom units comprise of specially designed pre-cast concrete pods with channeled services. They are manufactured off site then dropped into place vertically; installation is quick, easy,

ieland Electric has increased its range of standstill monitors with the addition of the SVM 4001K, a new device that has been designed to monitor AC drives without the need for additional sensors. Standstill detection is achieved by the evaluation of the induced residual voltage during the run down of single or 3 phase AC motors. The SVM 4001K is connected directly to the supply voltage connections of the monitored AC motor and, when the motor is switched off should the voltage at terminals L1, L2 and L3 of the device exceed the pre-set threshold voltage, the relay contacts will open instantaneously. When the monitored voltage falls below the set threshold voltage during the run down of the motor, the output relay will be turned on after an adjustable delay of up to 20 seconds. The SVM 4001K provides safe control of guards and interlocks and has adjustable threshold voltage and ‘on-delay’ times. The device operates with a supply voltage of up to 690 V AC 3 and relay outputs 230 V AC/ 8 A.

artech UK Ltd, which designs and manufactures a wide range of energy efficient light fittings, has improved its electrical safety testing procedure by installing an automatic system provided by the advanced HAL 104 from Clare. At its factory in West Yorkshire, Martech has been using ten HAL 104s on stock, assembly and sub-assembly production lines to test upwards of 600 units which it manufactures daily.
There, the HAL 104s perform a range of Class I, II and III tests to ensure compliance with EN 60598 and guarantee product quality, performance and reliability, including earth continuity, insulation resistance test and light-up/load test. The digital HAL 104s, which replaced three different types of test equipment, are fast, high performance automatic instruments which record test results and ensure accurate testing is carried out in line with relevant product standards at all times.

Latest Virtual Instruments facilitate data flow in high precision testing
H BM has developed LabVIEW Virtual
Instruments (VIs) giving system manufacturers an integrated solution to ensure convenient control in system tests with the simultaneous measurement of high-precision data acquisition from equipment such as HBM’s QuantumX family. The
compact and flexible solution also meets the needs of small
and mid-size test benches, such as those used to examine car seats or closing systems. In addition to gaining full integration of the data acquisition information in LabVIEW, system manufacturers can start with freely defined analog or periodic signals and output individual analog values or scaled input signals. The LabVIEW Virtual Instruments are designed to offer all system manufacturers maximum flexibility combined with the highest measurement quality for demanding test tasks.

Rigel Medical Testers and analysers pass Israel hospital test
improve the testing and calibration of biomedical devices. The move by the private Herzliya Medical Center (HMC) has simplified testing procedures as part of an in-service planned preventative maintenance programme overseen by the Biomedical Department. This has led to improvements in the speed and ease by which electrosurgical units (ESU), vital signs monitors, infusion devices and defibrillators among other items of medical equipment are maintained and checked for electrical safety and performance accuracy. Director of the Biomedical Department and engineer Tamim Jaber said that turning to Rigel Medical met the HMC’s ‘real life biomedical’ requirements, providing the first opportunity to bring all aspects of biomedical testing within a single software solution (Rigel’s Med-eBase) and to generate reports and certificates for all devices under test.

EM Manufacturing, the UK manufacturer and supplier of Deltron enclosures, has launched a
new range of heavy duty, IP rated industrial units suitable for use in harsh environments. The product range meets minimum exposure IP66, IP67 and IP68 for
full
submersion. The new enclosures will find a home in automotive, industrial automation, marine, military ground systems,
test and
measurement, traffic management and monitoring, transportation and utilities applications. The range of available dimensions is from 125mm (L) by 125mm (W) and 80mm (H) to 260mm by 160mm by 120mm in the same dimensions. The new heavy duty series boasts a unique sealing mechanism, developed to ensure minimum exposure for IP66 and IP68 compliance. The IP68 units are suitable for continuous submersion up to depths of ten metres, for up to 20 hours. The seal design also allows contact between the lid and base to maintain EMI/RFI (Electromagnetic and Radio- Frequency Interference) protection.
