FEATURE EXHIBITION PREVIEW
EARLS COURT WELCOMES rail infrastructure show
From 20th-22nd May, Earls Court in London will be the venue for the tenth Infrarail exhibition, focusing on technologies, products and services for railway infrastructure. Electrical Engineering takes a look at what’s coming down the track
T
his year’s Infrarail show is set to play host to more than 180 companies who
will be presenting innovative products for fixed railway assets that include signalling and train control systems, electrification projects, communications, station facilities and security systems. Also present will be suppliers of products and services for cable systems, lighting, track construction and maintenance, civil works, worksite safety and site access, as well as specialised consultancy, recruitment and occupational health services. The last Infrarail exhibition in 2012 attracted more than 4,500 rail industry managers, engineers and buyers. A similar level of interest can be expected this year. Thanks to high profile projects like Crossrail in London and plans to electrify large parts of Britain’s rail network,
investment in UK railway infrastructure is running at unprecedented levels. In addition, assuming the ambitious HS2 high speed rail project overcomes its hurdles, this trend is set to continue for a long time yet. Making fewer headlines but no less
important for the electrical engineering sector and its suppliers are numerous schemes to increase capacity and add to the national transport network - programmes like Network Rail’s ongoing modernisation of its signalling systems by concentrating activities on a small number of control centres, London Underground’s Northern Line Extension and projects to expand light rail systems in Manchester and Nottingham.
MORE THAN JUST AN EXHIBITION As well as conventional company stands and equipment, the exhibition hall will be the setting for The Track, sponsored by Tata Steel, which will showcase track mounted equipment and products, and The Yard, a display area for larger

Mack Brooks Exhibitions is a new event co-located with Infrarail at Earls Court. The Civil Infrastructure & Technology Exhibition (CITE) 2014 will share much common ground with the rail show by featuring equipment, products and services needed for constructing and maintaining vital infrastructure such as roads, ports, utilities and communications networks.
