VIBRATION AND TEMPERATURE MONITORING

HEAT SENSOR RECEIVES ATEX CERTIFICATION

Monitran has introduced ATEX and IECEx Group II certified intrinsically safe dual output sensors for vibration and temperature monitoring. Certified to ATEX and IECEx Group II, the

MTN/2285IT and MTN/2200IT series are sealed to IP67, are available with integral cables or 4-pin connectors and are well suited for measuring vibration levels and temperatures in areas where explosive gases, liquids or dust may be present. The MTN/2285IT series comprises

sensors with DC current outputs, in the range 4-20mA, proportional to RMS velocity (mm/s) and temperature as a voltage at a sensitivity of 10mV/°C. In addition, the operating temperature is certified to T6 (-55°C ≤ Ta ≤ 45°C). The MTN/2200IT series is aimed more

at analysis applications and features constant current accelerometers with isolated outputs for acceleration - in volts at a standard sensitivity of 100mV/g, and temperature at a sensitivity of 10mV/°C. The operating temperature for this series is certified to T4 (-55°C ≤ Ta ≤ 95°C).

Patol's 5610 infrared transit heat sensor has been awarded ATEX and IECEx certification for use in hazardous areas with the potential for dust explosion. It is housed within an explosion-proof Exd enclosure inside which ensures any internal explosion or electrical problem would remain restricted in order to prevent propagation to any potentially explosive atmosphere outside. The 5610 has been created for

hazardous environments for providing protection on conveyor belts or systems wherever materials are being continuously transported, when the capacity for

self ignition provides a threat. The range uses monitoring

technology via twin, high integrity detection circuit channels for maximum reliability. It is specifically designed to protect working environments where the potential for fire or explosion is a

common condition, even where the constant movement of combustible materials is a routine occurrence. To read the full story visit

Thomas & Betts has published a new catalogue featuring its range of products for use within hazardous and hostile areas. New Kopex-Ex branded electrical conduit systems and DTS hazardous area lighting products/enclosures are featured as well as essential information for industry professionals on global hazardous area classifications and zones. All Thomas & Betts products are designed for use in the oil and gas, food and beverage, chemical and pharmaceutical industries as well as many other industrial sectors. The catalogue explains how such industries are bound by different standards throughout the world including ATEX Europe, the IECEx international scheme, UL America, CSA Canada and GOST for Russia. There are also specific hazardous area zone definitions to assist with the selection of the correct Kopex-Ex and DTS products. The Kopex-Ex range includes industry liquid tight and nylon non-metallic electrical conduit systems and

fittings, and details of new anti-static nylon multi-layer conduit for high impact resistance are featured in the catalogue for the first time. The DTS Ex lighting range is also featured as is details of hazardous area junction, instrumentation and control boxes, as well as panels and new customised enclosures offering ATEX Exd and explosion-proof protection.

OFFERING GUIDANCE

A new ‘Guide for hazardous areas’ which is also available as a free download, has recently been published by E2S Warning Signals. The guide includes matrix tables that

enable fast cross-referencing of information between the main certification systems - ATEX, IECEx, North American and Canadian standards. Protection concepts are listed along with applicable zone, class or division and typical equipment protection level. The guide contains reference information related to gas and dust atmospheres and potentially explosive environments; maximum surface temperature of equipment, temperature classifications and ignition temperature limits of gas/dust; apparatus groups and typical ignition temperatures for common gases, vapours and dust; type of protection and concepts of protection listed by zone, class and division; IP ratings and NEMA enclosure types; and typical equipment markings of hazardous area signalling products from the E2S portfolio.

SWITCHBOXES NOW STOCKED IN THE UK

Rotork Valvekits, the Rotork actuator manufacturing and flow control group’s specialist valve mounting kit company, is now the UK stockist for Soldo switchboxes. Rotork Valvekits will predominantly

stock Soldo switchboxes for hazardous area applications, encompassing the SK and SQ explosion-proof ranges and intrinsically safe models from the SP range. SK and SQ switchboxes are internationally certified for installation in EExd Zone 1 and 2 hazardous areas by ATEX, IECEx, GOST (Russia) and CCOE (India). Available with painted aluminium or

polished 316L stainless steel enclosures, these switchboxes can be supplied with electromechanical switches, magnetic switches, proximity sensors or inductive sensors to suit user requirements. A pre- wired terminal strip incorporates two extra terminals for solenoid valve connections. Integral adjustable Namur standard mounting legs enable swift

attachment to any actuator with VDI/VDE3845 dimensions. Environmentally sealed to IP66/67 as standard or IP67/68 as an option, the switchbox enclosure is fitted with two cable entries and a 3D visual position indicator. Soldo SP switchboxes incorporate the

same features as the SK/SQ ranges within an IP65 weatherproof reinforced polymer enclosure designed for non-hazardous or intrinsically safe applications.
