18 ACR Show Review Cool show succeed

The ACR Show saw hardy visitors battling snowstorms and floods on the way to the NEC to see what the exhibitors had to offer. With footfall similar to the 2012 show, but quality of visitor much higher, the interest levels created a positive atmosphere which exhibitors revelled in. Here, ACR News takes a look at what exhibitors had to offer, people had to say and seminars had to present.

PRODUCT LAUNCHES were a central feature of the show, and lead sponsor Daikin UK led the way with the launch of its VRV IV heat recovery system. Building operators are increasingly seeking total project solutions for climate control, from design through servicing, and demand high levels of comfort

combined with lower energy costs and CO2 emissions, and the company says that its VRV IV heat recovery fulfils all of these requirements.

It integrates heating, cooling, ventilation, air curtains and hot water, recovering ‘free’ heat from areas requiring cooling and using it to heat other areas and provide hot water.

For offices, hotels, restaurants, leisure centres, healthcare environments, shops and public buildings, this means optimal comfort at very high efficiencies – COPs up to 10 in mixed mode.

Variable refrigerant temperature technology is at the heart of the dramatic increases in efficiency.

By continually adjusting refrigerant temperature to match heating or cooling demand and the outside temperature, less power is needed, efficiency is, on average, 28% higher and comfort is improved. An added benefit is that higher refrigerant temperatures prevent cold draughts.

Continuous heating during defrost also improves comfort, avoiding a drop in indoor temperatures during the defrost cycle that can happen with other systems, and making the VRV IV system suitable when specifying monovalent heating applications.

Finally, the VRV configurator software speeds up installation and commissioning and allows multiple systems at different sites to be managed easily.

Refcom showcased its Elite scheme and its F-Gas compliance and enforcement work with the Environment Agency, as well as giving fridgehub previews.

Refcom secretary Stephen Crocker said: “Despite the severe weather conditions, we enjoyed a very busy show and achieved the aims of Elite scheme recruitment,

promoting awareness of compliance and enforcement work for the F-Gas regulation and the dissemination of important new information on the F-Gas Regulation review.

“It was rewarding to have a lot of interest in our voluntary F-Gas scheme, which offers higher standards of company certification than the mandatory F-Gas registration.

“Later in the year we hope to be widely promoting the effective enforcement work now being undertaken with the Environment Agency for the existing F-Gas Regulation.”

Refcom partnered up with Fridgehub throughout the show and Mark Denton, fridgehub founder, said: “The ACR Show provided an excellent platform for us to take visitors through an exclusive preview of our directory site. There was a lot of excitement and interest, and we showed them how to sign up and register and claim their listing.”

Mr Denton continued: “The buzz at the show was heightened by the high profile seminar programme, featuring packed sessions led by industry experts. Particularly well attended were presentations on the recent changes to the F-Gas Regulations, the greening of the supermarkets, and updates on the latest advances in cooling and heat pump technology.”

Blue Diamond launched its IsoPlenum to the UK market together with the MiniBlue R.

Divisional manager Andy Green said: “The IsoPlenum was especially well received by the engineers attending the show. They could see the added value in installing the IsoPlenum as an alternative to heavy steel plenum boxes that require additional cost, time and components to hang and support.

“The MiniBlue R was launched at the ACR Show as a direct result of what the market was asking us for. Engineers liked the standard MiniBlue, but wanted it controlled only when condensate was present. By changing the electronics within the pump we were able to incorporate our
