AT THE RACES
Last spring, Evan Aparri(8) joined the Triathlon Club of San Diego’s Youth Program and conquered one of his biggest challenges: open water swimming. He won his age group at the Chula Vista Challenge Kids Race and HITS Lake Havasu Open Distance Race and placed second in the HITS Palm Springs Open Distance Race.

Maija(11) and Jonas(6) Juusola-Fitzpatrickboth love triathlon and look forward to racing with the Mini Cow Tri Club next summer. Maija has been racing for six years and wants to improve her times from last year. Jonas has been racing for two years and loves going fast on the bike.

Isabella Grace Dedmore(10) has competed in more than 30 triathlons and is excited to enter her fifth year of competition. She’s thrilled about triathlon becoming an NCAA Emerging Sport for Women and hopes to compete in college one day.

Melissa Schroeder(11) completed her first multisport events last year at the Buzz Ryan Sprint Triathlon in Duluth, Minn., and the Burrito Union Sprint Triathlon in Superior, Wis. — and she is hooked! In 2014, she plans on racing these events again and hopes to get faster in the swim and bike portions.
