Free webinars in March cover variety of topics to enhance

engineering knowledge

BM is offering four free on-line webinars during March that examine a variety of different topics for engineers needing to be at the forefront of the latest developments in data acquisition. The first webinar is on 11th March and takes an in-depth look at the rapidly increasing demands of vehicle testing in both mobile and bench testing applications. The aim of the webinar is to help engineers gain an insight into taking measurements and getting the results reliably and quickly to improve the effectiveness of vehicle testing. The webinar is suitable for engineers concerned with testing system components and those looking at gathering data from the complete vehicle during testing.

H Vehicle

tests often require measurements from a wide variety of sensors including mechanical, electrical and thermal devices and this webinar focuses on HBM’s QuantumX as a modern distributable data acquisition system capable of acquiring data from all the different sensor inputs as well as utilising data from CANbus, GPS or cameras. A webinar on 18th March looks at how engineers can efficiently measure torque in marine propulsion systems and discusses how the integration of modern torque measurement technology into a ship’s drive train can improve the efficiency of the engines.

erex Material Handling has completely redesigned the Demag KBK Aluline light crane system to create a versatile and ergonomic modular lifting and moving solution. Reduced rolling resistance enables operators to move loads weighing up to 2,000 kg, by hand, with minimum physical effort.

Six profile sections in four sizes The new light crane system comprises hollow section aluminium profiles, in four sizes, which deliver improved rigidity and a higher load capacity. In addition, all profile sections benefit from lateral slots, which are compatible with the ITEM system, making it an ideal platform for the addition of other industry standard acces- sories for bespoke solutions. The two larger KBK Aluline profile sections are available with optional integrated conductor lines, eliminating trailing cables, for improved functionality and a clean, modern appearance. The spectrum of applications for the light crane system ranges from small workshops to complex interlinked materi- al flow applications, including semi-automated production operations. The system is particularly suit- ed to the automotive industry, where high cycle times and precise positioning on production lines are prerequisites. The smooth operation of the KBK Aluline system, with low load dead weight, reduces operator fatigue whilst meeting demands for operational efficiency and safety.

New rail connections for greater versatility As an overhead handling system, KBK Aluline makes it possible to create almost any size of suspen- sion crane or monorail system. Even greater versatility is afforded by a significant reduction in the number of suspension points required and a consequent increase in the distance between the profile section connectors and suspension points. The new sections are stronger and lighter, requiring less supporting structure, for reduced installation time and cost. The KBK Aluline system has been designed to be virtually maintenance free

All aluminium profile sections are compatible with existing Demag KBK steel and Aluline profile

sections, allowing them to be combined for the upgrade and extension of existing material handling installations. By installing or upgrading to the smooth running characteristics of KBK Aluline, noise levels are also reduced for an improved working environment. Terex Material Handling offers a free consultancy and advice service to customers, through its own experienced local support engineers, and via a nationwide dealer and OEM programme.

Outdoor weighing applications enhanced with latest TPE cables

BM has developed cables made from thermoplastic elastomers to provide a high level of protection against weather and rodents. The cables are available on reels for easier installation and additional flexibility when constructing outdoor installations of weighing systems. Outdoor weighing applications demand cables featuring sturdiness and long-term stability that are met by the latest thermoplastic elastomer (TPE) cables developed by HBM since they provide very high levels of mechanical protection when compared with PVC cables. The CAB1M variant of the cables features metal braid that can be needed as an additional deterrent from rodents. The use of TPE cables eliminates the need for expensive special cable protection pipes while ensuring high system safety and reliability.

H HBM also provides

suitable installation material for a range of its products such as the C16 and HLC load cells, weighing modules C16/M and HLC/M and the WE2107 weighing electronics that complement the TPE cables for outdoor weighing applications.

BM has developed LabVIEW Virtual Instruments (VIs) giving system manufacturers an integrated solution to ensure convenient control in system tests with the simultaneous measurement of high- precision data acquisition from equipment such as HBM’s QuantumX family. The compact and flexible solution also meets the needs of small and mid-size test benches, such as those used to examine car seats or closing systems. In addition to gaining full integration of the data acquisition information in LabVIEW, system manufacturers can start with freely defined analog or periodic signals and output individual analog values or scaled input signals. The LabVIEW Virtual Instruments are designed to offer all system manufacturers maximum flexibility combined with the highest measurement quality for demanding test tasks. HBM’s QuantumX family has been designed to optimally meet the data acquisition requirements of system tests while LabVIEW is a proven software solution in test benches because it features a great deal of programming flexibility.
