EXHIBITION PREVIEW FEATURE MACH 2014 - ready for take-off

The biennial MACH exhibition, to be held 7th-11th April 2014 at the NEC Birmingham, is the UK’s largest event for the manufacturing technologies sector. The Exhibition will feature over 6,000 tonnes of machinery under power and will occupy Halls 4 and 5 of the NEC

A

new feature at MACH 2014 will be the UK Manufacturing Zone. This area

allows companies to showcase their contribution to the UK’s supply chain strength. The zone has attracted a number of original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) to highlight the breadth of their requirements. Airbus was the first OEM to confirm its involvement and has since been followed by Rolls-Royce and Messier Bugatti Dowty. Rolls-Royce in particular will be displaying its capabilities in power generation and marine, in addition to its aero engine business. However, the zone’s real strength will be the capabilities of the innovative small and medium sized companies on display. MACH will again be displaying the very latest manufacturing technologies, with the event covering the full range of metal working sectors and in 2014, will have new composite and additive manufacturing (3D printing) zones. These emerging technologies will be making their MACH debuts and reflect how the manufacturing technologies sector is developing to meet new requirements.

In addition to these developments there will also be new zones for Logistics & Materials Handling and Surface Finishing & Component Cleaning. The Logistics & Materials Handling Zone is the product of a new partnership for MACH with IMHX, the lead show in that sector, held in non-MACH years. MACH 2014 also sees significant technology developments for established areas like the Software Solutions, Measurement and Inspection, Welding and Engineering & Lasers Zones.

BIGGER AND BETTER Many exhibitors have increased the amount of space they have taken for MACH 2014. For example Rösler UK, the

UK branch of the mass finishing and shot blasting equipment manufacturer, will be tripling its exhibition space at MACH. Rösler UK general manager Steve Lewis- Brammer commented, “MACH 2014 was the obvious exhibition to attend for us, as it is the leading exhibition for production equipment in the UK. We find the exhibition is the perfect opportunity to meet many of our existing customers as well as giving us an ideal opportunity to talk to prospective customers who have a need for surface preparation and/or finishing.” At MACH 2012 Rösler UK had its best ever footfall on the stand and the highest number of enquiries from the show. With the current optimism in UK manufacturing, the company is looking forward to MACH 2014 being even better. The Welding World Village gives welding technology companies a stage on which they can exhibit to a much larger audience than would otherwise be available elsewhere. Building on the highly successful Metalforming Machinery Makers Association’s Metalworking Village at MACH 2012, run under the long term contract between the Association and the MTA, the MMMA has decided to extend the size of the village to include more of its members.

belief that the improving financial situation will result in a highly beneficial outcome for all participating members.”

EDUCATION AND TRAINING Additionally, many companies are returning to MACH after absences and new players are attending the exhibition for the first time. Education and training is now well established at MACH with tours of young people, conducted by apprentices from MTA member companies, a familiar site around the Halls. The Education and Training Zone is the centre of their visit, with exhibits such as the AMRC’s MANTRA and the Bloodhound Supersonic Car confirmed to take their places. Finally there is a new development in the

E&T Zone. For the first time Worldskills will be running live competitions at the exhibition between Monday and Wednesday. This is a visible contribution to encouraging the skills needed to keep UK manufacturing growing and is a vital part of securing the sector’s future. The visitor promotion campaign for

Adrian Haller, chairman of the MMMA, said, “The members exhibiting will be looking to build on their success at MACH 2012 and have therefore increased their space requirements to better demonstrate their state of the art metalforming machinery and allied equipment. I am looking forward to MACH 2014 in the firm

/AUTOMATION

MACH 2014 is now under way to attract even more than the 22,000 visitors who attended in 2012. The MTA is issuing regular MACH Bulletins to bring the wider manufacturing world up to date with the latest from MACH 2014’s exhibitors. All the latest exhibitor news and bulletins are also available on the MACH 2014 website at www.machexhibition.com.
