t the 2014 Hannover Fair, NORD DRIVESYSTEMS will showcase high-efficiency drive solutions for conveying applications. Compact two-stage helical bevel gear units are combined with energy-saving motors. Based on a comprehensive drive electronics program, NORD can configure drive units for a very wide selection of functional requirements.

The cards have a reduced height to be used in compact desktop PCs, IPC or HMI terminals. Based on Hilscher’s netX technology the heart of the unit is a highly integrated ARM based ASIC with several communication channels and an integrated network switch. Versions for PROFIBUS, CANopen, DeviceNet as well as Real-Time-Ethernet are available. Due to loadable firmware and software licenses the same hardware can alternatively be used as Master or Slave. For Real-Time-Ethernet actually 11 different protocol variants can be used on the same PC-Card. Such as PROFINET, EtherNet/IP, EtherCAT etc.

Energy chains accommodate 90 lateral pivoting & 180 axial rotations
tandard energy chain systems are not designed to accommodate lateral (side to side) displacements or torsional (twisting) movements in the normal course of their running operations. However, the latest System Allround energy chains from M Buttkereit Ltd are manufactured utilising a flexible link material, enabling varied movement possibilities without necessitating any substantial design, layout or operating alterations. Combined rotary or oscillating movements can overlap within single or even double linear movements, and where sufficient chain lengths are involved, then 90º lateral pivoting and 180º axial rotations can also be achieved. This provides for an almost limitless range of motion in a hanging arrangement where adequate chain lengths are available. This versatility is achieved by the incorporation of highly flexible links manufactured from thermoset elastomer material. These individual links are available with 65mm pitch enabling both inside and outside bend radii from 65 to 300mm, and a 90mm pitch link for similar bends from 100 to 400mm radii, while the largest pitch dimension of 115mm accommodates bending from 150 to 500mm radii. Variable link dimensions to achieve optional conveyor widths can also be provided with 50 to 200mm conveyor width on the 65mm pitch and 50 to 300mm conveyor width for both the 90 and 115mm pitch links.

The panel works as a communication and proofing system to improve efficiency and safety. A typical application often includes two interlocked key units to isolate power to the panel and ensure a specific sequence of operation. Using the panel, the operator can select to close the valves.
Red LED
lights prove that the valves have reached their fully closed position.
When all valves are closed, the
operator can isolate the panel by removing the ‘A’ Key. The ‘A’ key is entered into the solenoid key unit and only when the SAS (safety and automation system) confirms all valves are closed, a permissive signal is sent to energise the solenoid and release the ‘B’ key. This allows the operator to safely continue the mechanical interlocking sequence, for example, to manually unlock a pig trap door to load or unload a pig.
