TECHNOLOGY FILE PRODUCTS ULTRA-FAST 12 MEGA-PIXEL CAMERA FOR FH VISION SYSTEMS
Omron’s latest FH industrial vision system platform has received new camera options in the form of colour and monochrome 12 mega- pixel ultra-fast capture variants. The new cameras expand the range of addressable applications by providing accurate measurements on small targets or allowing detailed inspections on large area fields. The new 12 mega-pixel cameras are also cost effective when compared against using multiple cameras of a lower resolution as traditionally, to achieve a similar resolution, a combination of multiple cameras would need to be used which can often cause issues with regard to installation
and commissioning. The new cameras not only provide high
resolution image capture, but also have been designed to operate at ultra-high speed, with an array capture time reduced to 25.7ms, which is the fastest in its class. The cameras also have the ability to pre-process the image, providing advanced functionality including High Dynamic Range adjustment and image adjustment as an integral part of the image capture process, without compromising acquisition speed.

A new 4.2 mega-pixel 75 frames per second (fps) camera with NIR sensitivity, from STEMMER IMAGING, has been introduced to join the colour and monochrome versions of the high speed USB 3.0 uEye CP cameras from IDS. Featuring a new NIR version of CMOSIS’ 4.2 mega-pixel sensor, this new industrial vision camera provides double the sensitivity (16 %) in the near infrared wavelength range compared to the standard monochrome sensor. The UI-3370CP-NIR operates at 75
fps at full resolution, utilising the high speed data transfer capabilities of the USB3 3.0 interface. NIR imaging is a powerful technique that may reveal otherwise unobservable defects from below the surface of an
detailed, crisp and distortion-free images in all conditions, even of moving objects, making it suitable for speed critical applications in machine vision inspection, traffic surveillance, biomedicine or astronomy. The camera also features a triggered line scan mode line with scan rates of up to 8kHz for high speed web inspection tasks. With its square one inch optical format and 2048 x 2048 pixel resolution, the sensor is also well suited to solar wafer and surface inspection. The compact (29 x 29 x 29mm) UI- 3370CP series of cameras feature a lightweight magnesium housing. With a C-mount lens mount, lockable USB 3.0 and Hirose connectors, a serial interface and optically decoupled trigger and flash, the cameras can be readily integrated into a wide range of applications.

BRINGING CONSUMER TECHNOLOGY TO THE AUTOMATION SECTOR
Eaton is expanding its portfolio of high end HMIs with the XP500 series of industrial touch-panel PCs. The new devices bring the latest operating systems and practices from consumer technology
into the field of automation to meet the increasing need of machine and system builders for high precision and cost efficient HMI solutions with capacitive multi-touch technology. The HMI panels run on Windows 7, are available with widescreen displays of 10.1", 15.6" or 21.5" and are mounted in switch cabinets or operator consoles making them suitable for standard machine building applications in virtually all industrial sectors. The XP500 panel PC simplifies operation for the user and its touch sensor technology ensures that control commands are detected accurately. The PCT (projected capacitive touch) technology provides intuitive operation and the multi-touch screen means users can operate several
/AUTOMATION
functions simultaneously. The operator can now also use touch to zoom and scroll. The XP500 has a slim, fan-free design with a
large area display. The non-reflective safety glass is easy to maintain with a split-free and edge-free front that allows thorough cleaning. The aluminium housing offers protection to IP65/Nema 4X and devices provided with UL Class I, Division 2 certification. This also makes the panel PCs suitable for harsh industrial environments as well as for hazardous applications in the process industry.
