Coaching Education & Resources

Last year was full of Youth Program events, coaching events, biennial coach conference, camps and clinics. We want to share with everyone all the great information that was learned and now published online for you to view and learn from too. It’s hard to take time off from work and attend various events that are held here at the Olympic Training Center. It’s even harder to get access to in- formation to help grow your junior programs which frequently exist in many different organizations (e.g. NRA, CMP, ACUI, SCTP, USAS, USOC, etc.).

We want to encourage you to explore the USA Shooting website, especially Youth Programs, Coach Resource web pages and CTC web pages.

High School / Collegiate Coach Resources http://www.usashooting.org/membership/coaches/high-school-and-college-shooting-programs Many organizations came together to consolidate information onto one web page for those who are trying to start up high school and/or college shooting programs. You will fi nd information about range design, funding opportunities, and much more.

2013 Biennial Coach Conference http://www.usashooting.org/membership/coaches/2013-coach-conference We had 22 topics that were delivered at the biennial coach conference. We did not want this to only be shared with those that were able to attend in person, but share with coaches all over the country. We uploaded all of the Power Point presen- tations and (in most cases) have uploaded the actual voice recording of the presentation.

USAS Safe Sport Policy Training http://www.brainshark.com/usashooting/UnlockedSafeSportPolicy This is required training for all USAS staff, coaches, volunteers working with juniors and athletes. This is a very comprehen- sive policy that covers everything from hazing, bullying, athlete travel, electronic media abuse, mental and physical abuse, and sexual harassment and sex abuse. It explains what misconduct is and how to report it. We plan to produce a generic version for clubs in the near future. This not only protects athletes, but coaches and their clubs as well. It only takes one multi-million dollar lawsuit to destroy a club. Did you know that one-in-four girls and one-in-six boys will be sexually abused by the time they turn 18? Did you know that the abused child has tried on average seven times to alert an adult before the adults acted on the information? Did you know when a sex abuser is caught that they have abused on average 150 children?

USAS Certifi ed Training Centers http://www.usashooting.org/membership/49-clubs/certifi ed-training-centers We want you to know about our Certifi ed Training Centers across the U.S. Just because you don’t live near a CTC, that doesn’t prevent you from contacting them and asking for coaching tips for your athletes. These CTCs run periodic development camps for athletes as well as coach certifi ca- tion courses. They are there to help - You just need to contact them.

Last but not least, we are developing online basic training courses for each of the Olympic shooting sports: http://www.usashooting.org/membership/youth-programs/basic-training-courses

We have published the fi rst online basic training course for Rapid Fire Pistol. More will be published over the next 12 months. For more information, contact Michael Theimer at 719-866-4889.
