Rio in Sight: Qualifying for the 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games
The process of getting in the Games starts now. Find out what that means for you.
2016 Paralympic Games Qualifi cation System Direct Allocation slots can be obtained at the 2014 IPC Shooting World Championships (63) and at three IPC Shooting World Cups in 2015 designated as Qualifi ers for the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games. Each of the three World Cups contains 27 available spots for a total of 81 (54 male, 27 female). A qualifi - cation slot can only be obtained if the result is equal to or higher than the Minimum Qualifi cation Score (MQS) in that medal event. The USA Shooting Paralympic
Team can include up to 12 ath- letes including eight males and four females.
For a complete guide the
2016 Olympic Games Qualifi cation System You could sift through the sev-
en-page document outlining the exact distribution of quota spots for the 2016 Olympic Games, but here’s the one big takeaway: Opportunity now exists to fi ll two spots in the Women’s Shotgun events for the fi rst time ever. Given the strength of the USA Shooting Shotgun program and the depth of women capable of medaling, this is a huge victory for the USA Shooting Team. The 51st ISSF World Cham- pionship in Granada, Spain, will assign the fi rst 64 Quota Places for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. Quota Places will then be distrib-
uted through designated qualify- ing competitions (download the list). A total of 366 Quota places for the XXXI Olympiad will be dis- tributed by the ISSF in designat- ed quota qualifying competitions from August 1, 2014 up through March 31, 2016.
Additional quota places can be obtained for USA Shooting Team members at the 2014 Championship of the Americas (11), the Pan American Games (20), the 2015 World Clay Tar- get Championships (10) and the seven 2015 ISSF World Cups that will include (136). The max- imum number of athletes the USA Shooting Team, or any other National Olympic Committee,
could have participating would be 30 including 18 men and 12 women (two athletes per event). For a complete rundown of
