Powerful Living

The GoGoGeo Challenge kickoff event took place at Oklahoma State University’s Gallagher-Iba Arena. Fans attending the OSU-Baylor basketball game were invited to take the Challenge and register to win a 50-gallon Yukon Cooler/Locker. Western Farmers Electric Cooperative marketing and communication staff, as well as several distribution cooperative representatives and delegates from each of the sponsoring entities, manned kiosks located around the arena as a part of this kickoff event.

Be in the loop with GoGoGeo Challenge W

ant to be in the loop? Take the GoGoGeo Challenge and discover

the potential savings that are avail- able by retrofi tting your home with state-of-the-art ground source heat pump technology. For a few mo- ments of your time, this survey will show you the projected energy sav- ings, tax incentives and environ- mental benefits of geothermal technology. “There has never been a better time to Go Geo. Many homeown- ers may not realize the magnitude of taking this important step that represents the innovative progres- sion of cooperatives toward the heating and air conditioning of homes,” said Mark Faulkenberry, Western Farmers Electric Cooperative manager of marketing and communication. The GoGoGeo Challenge is a

unique educational opportunity and sweepstakes created by Touchstone Energy® Cooperatives, and

sponsored by Bosch,

ClimateMaster, and the International Ground Source Heat Pump Association. The 2014 Challenge will be conducted be- tween Feb. 1 and Nov. 21, 2014, with a goal of providing geothermal technology information to a wide range of audiences.

Entering is simple. Go to the

Challenge website: www.gogogeo- challenge.com and view the Calendar of Events to fi nd where

program representatives will be available, such as county and state fairs and cooperative annual meet- ings. Also, check with your local Touchstone Energy Cooperative, as they too can tell you the nearest location to take the Challenge. When taking the survey, a repre- sentative will enter information into a software program designed to estimate the possible savings of ret- rofi tting your home with geother- mal technology. A brief savings summary, in addition to any tax credits and other incentives offered by each respective electric coopera- tive, will then be provided. By taking the GoGoGeo

Challenge, you are registered to win great prizes, such as one of three Kawasaki utility or all-terrain vehi- cles that are the grand prizes, cour- tesy of the House of Kawasaki. Additional prizes, including Yukon Cooler/Lockers and Visa Gift Cards, will be given away regionally throughout the sweepstakes period. The three grand prizes will be awarded in December 2014, while the other prizes will be given away at regional events during the year. “Some cooperatives are offering

incentive packages to encourage their consumers to consider geo- thermal, many of which help in reducing the upfront costs to the consumer,” Faulkenberry added. So, go ahead–get in the loop–the geothermal loop. And, take the GoGoGeo Challenge.

GoGoGeo points to consider

✓ Savings and Comfort: Geothermal technology can help consumers save a bundle on heating and cooling costs, plus create a comfortable year-round home environment. As homeowners install this energy- effi cient technology, utility providers also benefi t, as it helps reduce overall capacity needs. This, in turn, helps all consumers to see lower utility costs. Environmental impacts involve a decrease in fossil fuel use, thus lowering the carbon footprint and helping utility providers in decreasing site emissions that will benefi t the environment.

✓ Incentives: Some utility providers are offering incentive packages to encourage consumers to Go Geo. Rebates range from $600 to $1,000 per ton, coupled with some utilities offering thermal energy services, along with low-interest fi nancing packages, all of which dras- tically reduce the upfront costs to the consumer. Contact your local utility provider for details on what is available!

✓ Tax Incentives: Due to emphasis placed on renewables and energy effi ciency, the federal government is offering a 30 percent tax credit for geothermal installations meeting federal Energy Star criteria. Sys- tems must be placed in service on or before Dec. 31, 2016 to qualify.
