recently-awarded Operation Round Up® grant aimed at helping nonviolent female off enders navigate back into the community and improve their chances of being successful, law-abiding citizens. T e OEC Foundation board in February granted $2,500 to the Second Chance Advocacy Program (S-CAP), an initiative of the Cleveland County Sheriff ’s Offi ce designed to reduce off enders’ likelihood of going to prison. “Oklahoma leads the nation for incarcerated women and most are serving sentences for nonviolent crimes,” said Beth Jones, S-CAP program manager.

“We are working at the local level to assist women to make positive changes before they go to prison. Our primary goals are to transform these women into responsible tax-paying citizens and, as most women who are arrested are parents, reunite families.” Lloyd Gramling, OEC Foundation board president and a retired police chief, said taxpayers benefi t by these rehabilitation programs as well.


“Reducing recidivism cuts arresting, prosecuting, housing, and supervising costs for taxpayers and tackles inmate overcrowding.” While this program is still in its infancy, it is already showing success. T e


OEC Foundation grant, along with other community grants, will help sustain the eff ort in the coming months. T e S-CAP grant was one of four organizational grants awarded from


Operation Round Up donations during the February OEC Foundation meeting. In addition, the board approved grants to seven individuals. In all, $28,800 was awarded. T e OEC Foundation board will meet on March 27 to review funding


requests. Applications must be turned in by March 20 to be considered at the March meeting. Application forms—one for individuals/families and another for organizations—are available at http://bit.ly/oec-oru. Please include a copy of the applicants photo ID. Incomplete applications will be returned unprocessed.
