Golden Girl

Time certainly does fly in the fast paced world of fashion. Although it seems only moments since we were excitedly discussing the deeply dark and intoxicating shades of the colder months, Spring has now officially arrived which means embracing a whole host of new beauty trends and inspirations.

There always appears to be a natural tendency for a lighter, brighter approach to make-up with every Spring / Summer season, and this certainly again seems to be the case. Artists in charge of creating the looks backstage at the global Fashion Weeks were united in their approach, adopting the vision that where beauty is concerned for 2014, less is definitely more.

This season’s styles are fully accessible, adaptable and wearable – great news for you and your clients. From neutral and natural to luxe and luminous, take a look at our hot picks of the sizzling make-up trends straight from the Spring / Summer catwalks...

Minimal magic

One of the biggest looks for 2014 is a return to natural beauty. Designers including Victoria Beckham, Valentino, Narciso Rodriguez and Vera Wang all opted to let their clothing creations do the talking by keeping their models’ make-up to a bare minimum.

Although this may be one of the easiest trends to replicate both in the salon and at home, the art of looking blissfully barefaced and beautiful still requires the assistance of some essential make-up items. The secret to getting this style just right is to start with creating a flawless base. Complexions should be smooth,

perfect and ethereal, so avoid using any heavy applications. Natural beauties can achieve this through tinted moisturisers, BB creams, lightweight foundations and illuminators.

In order to complement this sheer coverage, other make-up should be kept barely there and simple. Mask any imperfections with a clever dab of concealer, sweep a light dusting of blusher on the apples of the cheeks and opt for a nude lipstick to round-off the look.

Pretty pastels

Nothing emanates the freshness of Spring like a palette of pretty pastels. From delicate blues and lilacs to soft pinks and greens, a whole host of candy shades were used to enhance the eyes of models walking in such shows as Badgley Mischka, Marc Jacobs and Armani.

You may find that clients can often be a little reluctant to inject splashes of colour into their everyday make-up routines, yet these subtle tones are a great way in which to encourage a little gentle experimentation. Romantic and feminine, the versatility of pastels means they can be worn by women of all ages and work to suit their differing skin tones. Lavender and green hues can enhance darker complexions whilst icy blues work well on fairer skins.

Summer skin

Glossy and glamorous, make-up artists were keen to replicate those hot, sun- soaked Summer days with shimmering and sun-kissed skins on the runways. This timeless trend always remains a popular choice with designers each year and naturally becomes one of the most hotly requested make-up looks.

To create a healthy glimmering glow, bronzers will become your trusty best friend. Ensure you demonstrate to your

clients how to use these products correctly as many of us are often guilty of being too heavy handed when it comes to our quest for tanned complexions.

Recommend they opt for a bronzer that is one to two shades darker than their skin tone and application should start lightly, building up coverage until the desired effect is achieved. It’s important to remember that this style should be clean and faultless, without crossing the line to overdone and artificial.

For an extra splash of warmth, add a touch of highlighter to accentuate the brows, eyes and cheekbones. When it comes to lips, think neutral, soft pinks, peaches and coral tones.

Let’s take a look at the latest cosmetics products available all ideal for recreating the new Spring / Summer catwalk creations in the salon and at home…
