SMARTA TECHNOLOGIES
B
ack in the late 1990s, experienced electrician and qualifi ed civil engineer Mark Wray took a growing interest in the then nascent smart home industry. He quickly identifi ed an opportunity to provide a
comprehensive range of smart home services under one company name. In 2001, Smarta Technologies was born.
Expansion drive Based in Cardiff , the company has expanded throughout the UK and has completed projects across Wales, as well as in Bristol, London, Manchester, Liverpool and Birmingham. Smarta Technologies has been on an upward
trajectory since it began, thanks to the public’s appetite for technologically advanced living spaces. However, the smart home installation sector is increasingly competitive and Wray says: ‘Although it is growing due to the rise in wireless and mobile technology, what makes us stand out in this industry is the quality of our work. This is achieved through the high level of training we provide for our team

of engineers and the opportunities we off er to apprentices.’ The recession has made it more diffi cult
for homeowners to raise fi nance for property improvements, but work has remained plentiful and the majority of Smarta’s business comes via referrals.
Showing off While some companies have seen the economic downturn as a reason not to invest in anything outside their core activities, Smarta Technologies has developed a network of showrooms that allow visitors to get hands-on with home automation technology. Located in Cardiff , Bridgend and Chepstow, these
state-of-the-art demonstration suites allow visitors to interact with and control a range of features including mood lighting, multi-room audio, home cinema and heating systems using their own smartphone and tablet devices. Wray says: ‘This represents a massive investment
for us, but is has proven to be highly benefi cial to the business.’ Like other ECA members who have seen the value
