In the East Midlands region, the Charles Bromley Trophy Award was won by Adam Bancroft, an employee of Frederick Smith Electrical, of Leicester, which has been an ECA member since 1990. Adam was presented with an engraved plaque and a cheque for £300 by Leicestershire & Warwickshire branch chairman, Stuart Cain, on 12 November 2013. Scott Stephenson, managing director, said that since Adam
had joined the company in 2011, it quickly became apparent that he was a very good fi t and had a natural aptitude for electrical works. ‘During Adam’s time at college, his reports have been nothing
short of excellent and he has shown himself to be a valuable and conscientious employee. Adam takes the time to think through and complete his work to a very high standard, and shows maturity and attitude to work beyond his years. He is well on his way to becoming an exceptional tradesman.’

Charity event success
Every November, the West Midlands regional offi ce – with the assistance of members – organises a dinner-dance at the Copthorne Hotel Merry Hill, Dudley, for ECA members and their guests. This event is supported by wholesalers and manufacturers in the industry, and key sponsors
were Hertz Electrical Wholesalers and Edmundson Electrical. Proceeds from the event, which raised £1,000, went to the
charity Prostate Cancer UK. Regional manager Steve Roberts highlighted the fact that one in eight men will get prostate cancer, and more than 40,000 men in the UK are diagnosed with prostate cancer each year – while 10,000 men in the UK die from the condition annually. However, as a positive, many men do survive and live normal lives with prostate cancer, with the correct medical treatment and support. For further information, go to
