ROYAL SET T ING FOR CUBO AWARDS

Now in its third year, the CUBO Awards return with a new category for 2014. An award to celebrate excellence in sport will debut alongside the seven other categories

THIS YEAR’S AWARDS take place on 3rd July at Royal Holloway, in the beautiful original dining hall of the 19th-century Founders Building. Since Queen Victoria presided

over the grand opening of Royal Holloway in 1886, the College continues its association with royal families today. Her Royal Highness, The Princess Royal, is often a guest in her role as the present Chancellor of the University of London. Certainly no less eminent, CUBO

members will converge upon the college for their 2014 summer conference from 2–4 July. The main event in the CUBO calendar, the summer conference provides a focal point for members to gather each year. The CUBO awards will be hosted on the second evening of the conference, following the traditional black tie gala dinner. The new award for 2014 is

designed to recognise the hard work put into providing an excellent sporting experience for students. The ethos of sport has changed a great deal in recent years; gone are the days when sporting excellence was simply about winning tournaments. This award is for programmes that have genuinely enhanced the student experience through sport. This may include: increasing

participation in sport, providing the best quality environment for sport, promoting health and well- being through sport, improving performance levels in sport, or a range of other factors that have increased student satisfaction and

the number of ‘CUBOs’ up for grabs to eight, each celebrating outstanding achievement within the higher education sector. The award categories for 2014 are:

✥ Excellence in Student Sport Experience ✥ Commercial University of the Year ✥ Business Manager of the Year ✥ Best Student Housing ✥ Best Catering Service ✥ Innovation Award for Excellence in Student Experience ✥ Business Partner of the Year ✥ Lifetime Achievement Award (decided by a select panel and not open to nomination)

The awards are open to all higher education institutions and to

businesses associated with CUBO’s areas of activity. Membership of CUBO is not a prerequisite. Entries from non-member institutions are warmly welcomed. All entrants are invited to make

their submissions by the end of February 2014. Submissions should be a maximum of 600 words in length and accompanied by up to three photographs. Full entry details can be found at www.cubo.org.uk. The awards panel meets in

March to shortlist candidates. Shortlists are subsequently made available on the CUBO website where members are eligible to vote for their choice of winner in each category. The outcome of the vote is strictly confidential, known only to two CUBO executive members until winners are announced on stage at the award ceremony. UB
