Virgin and Delta to dovetail New York flights at Heathrow Terminal 3

Ian Taylor

Virgin Atlantic and Delta Air Lines will launch a new joint schedule to New York from April, with all flights operating from Heathrow’s Terminal 3. Delta currently flies from

Terminal 4, but will move its New York and Boston services to Terminal 3 from April 2 and operate its new Seattle service from Terminal 3 to be alongside Virgin Atlantic and give access to Virgin’s Upper Class Clubhouse. The US carrier’s other services will continue to fly from Terminal 4. Virgin and Delta launched a

joint venture on January 1 after winning anti-trust immunity for

their commercial partnership last September. Delta completed the purchase of a 49% stake in Virgin Atlantic in June. The pair will continue to operate nine flights a day from Heathrow to New York – seven to JFK and two to Newark – but with a revamped schedule offering departures at regular intervals. For example, evening services to London from JFK will depart at 18.30, 19.00, 19.30, 20.30, 21.30 and 22.30. Perry Cantarutti, Delta senior

vice-president for Europe, described the carriers as operating “metal neutrality” now they share costs and revenue. “Agents can book customers on either carrier,” he said. “The cabins are complementary.”

British Airways has revamped its trade website and is seeking agents’ feedback following the first major overhaul in five years. BA online trade editor Roopal Vyas said: “Batraveltrade.com is our

trade shopfront. We want agents to be able to answer queries quickly.” Vyas said the site should be easier to navigate and more like Ba.com. Tom Rigby, head of commercial and product development at business travel agency Reed & Mackay, said: “The revamped site provides a quicker route to essential information.” batraveltrade.com
