German river cruise line A-Rosa is to offer fam trips and agent training as it targets the UK market for the first time. The operator, which specialises in cruises on the Rhine, Danube and Rhone, revealed it wanted to tap into the UK’s growing river cruise market at the Clia UK & Ireland conference last November. Currently, just 1% of passengers

on A-Rosa’s 11-strong fleet are from the UK. Christine Cubasch, the line’s PR manager, said A-Rosa hoped to increase that to between 3% and 5% this year. Fam trips and training will be held throughout the year to help agents learn more about the ships.

Cubasch said the line had

steadily grown its fleet and that its “innovative and fresh approach” would appeal to UK cruisers. She said promoting A-Rosa in the UK was “a major part of the company’s international strategy”. “We have started this by

entering into partnerships with some of the largest operators and agents in the UK. Our strategy is to build long-term partnerships. “We are always looking at new

avenues to get the product as widely distributed as possible in the UK. But we are not planning to sell direct in the UK.” Agents interested in selling

CMV will qualify for the prize draw. Each booking made by March 14 will qualify for one entry. Lisa Jacobs, head of retail sales, said: “This incentive is in addition to the basic enhanced rate of commission of 12.5% and full agent promotional support. “We are also determined to underline that we will not be offering online discounts for direct business.” To enter the prize draw, agents should email booking references to agents@cruiseand maritime.com
