consultant to assist with growing our pensions provision. Since then we have also introduced the CIPP pensions automatic enrolment self- assessment exercise (see page 17) which will help organisations who have not yet staged to prepare and offers a twenty minutes consultation phone call following completion of the exercise and based on their results. All of the CIPP conference programmes now cover pensions as well as payroll; including the annual payroll and pensions conference which is featured on pages 26 and 27.

The fact cards have grown during 2013 and are now available for: Australia, Austria, Germany, India, Ireland, Lesotho, Malaysia, Philippines, South Africa, UK and USA. The fact cards are also provided free of charge to all students on the Certificate in Managing Global Payrolls as an extra source of information to support their studies.
Not surprisingly when asked about why you keep your membership the main reason stated was keeping up to date. With the plethora of changes in payroll and pensions it is essential that professionals within the industry keep up to date. Following ‘keeping up to date’ the next two reasons for retaining membership were to be part of a body that represents the profession and influences policy and to increase your professional standing. In order to support members the
CIPP’s Policy and Research team sit on a variety of consultation forums and communicate with members daily through News On Line, and monthly through ‘On Your Behalf’ which features on page 6 of PayrollProfessional. The research highlighted that the key benefits of membership are as follows. l Advisory service – this was ranked as the key benefit by most members that completed the survey. Towards the end of 2013 the CIPP has made the following improvements to the Advisory Service to ensure that you can continue to benefit: m employed additional advisory support staff to assist in responding to enquiries received on the phone, email or through specialist interest groups and other online networking forums m changed the telephone number so that it is no longer an additional expense to members calling an 0845 number. amongst all levels of membership, it was encouraging to see that CPD was a key benefit to members. All members are doing CPD all of the time, and the survey results reflect the importance of this within the industry and to demonstrate your professionalism. l PayrollProfessional magazine – this publication was ranked highly amongst members as a key benefit. The magazine is available both as hard copy and an online version in the members’ area of the website so you can access this wherever and whenever you choose. l News On Line – hardly surprising the CIPP’s e-newsletter was ranked as one of the top benefits of membership. News On Line is available to all members on a daily or weekly basis depending on your preferences which can be managed in ‘My CIPP’ on the CIPP website. Simply login and select ‘Edit profile’ to select whether you receive News On Line daily or weekly. l Payroll factcard and app – issued after the Budget each year the payroll fact cards are useful to have on your desk; however, if you download the CIPP payroll factapp from Google Play or iTunes then you have always got access to the most up to date payroll information. The survey also asked what additional benefits members would expect from their Chartered Institute, the results included: l Online learning opportunities – the CIPP Policy and Research team have agreed to provide more online content
