INDUSTRY NEWS Columbus Castings Wins Amtrak Order for Undercarriages
Ohio-based Columbus Cast- ings has struck a deal with Nip- pon Sharyo USA Inc., Arlington Heights, Ill., for steel Amtrak railcar undercarriages. Columbus Business First reports the job could be worth up to $70 million to the manufacturer and will add more than 50 metalcasting jobs. Colum- bus Castings employs 650 people. Columbus Castings is a long- standing rail, mining, construction, agriculture and power-generation casting provider.
In 2013, Nippon Sharyo U.S.A. Inc. broke ground on a more than $50 million expansion of its U.S. production facility in Rochelle, Ill. It is the result of a contract for bilevel passenger railcars from California and Illinois transportation departments.
