OFF THE RECORD THE RECORD

This week the games industry became rather charitable, riding insanely long distances and throwing ice cold water over their heads in the name of good causes

ON YER BIKE

Following this year’s Gamescom, some mad games industry folk decided to cycle back from Cologne. To Brighton. That’s over 350 miles, the nutters. This insanity was in aid of

charity GamesAid, and has currently raised over £4,700. If you wish to give some

money for their eff orts, you can donate at www.justgiving. com/teams/garouleurs.

ICE ICE BABY

A new viral trend has been spreading across the internet. Strange people have been pouring water over themselves in the name of raising awareness of Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). Members of the UK games industry have also been getting involved in the ice-cold challenge. Among those to take the dip were Nintendo’s Andy Yates and Microsoft’s Jeremy Dale. Yates also nominated MCV to take on the challenge – who should we nominate?

THE WEEK IN 140 CHARACTERS The Tweets you might have missed in the last seven days

Steve Burns, Videogamer.com, Tuesday August 19th

@MikeyUnderwood Thanks for your tweets informing me that the ‘vanishing’ spray will not be appearing in FIFA 15. I think they’ve missed a trick. ;)

Michael Underwood, Talk Sport, Wednesday August 20th

@keefstuart Internet conspiracies seem to work like identity theft. Piece together enough crap and eventually you somehow confer legitimacy.

Keith Stuart, Thursday August 21st

@mikebithell I’m buddies with some game journos, because, yeah, lives overlap. I’d hope that if any thought that’d aff ect their writing, they wouldn’t.

Mike Bithell, indie developer, Saturday August 23rd

@ultrabrilliant My sinister intentions as a games writer: getting you excited about games, and telling you which ones are good, and which ones aren’t.

Andy Kelly, PC Gamer, Saturday August 23rd

Michael Gapper, Edge, Tuesday August 26th

@mrbasil_pesto Link in Mario Kart and Pokemon meets Tekken, hours after we send our news section. Good ol’ magazines.

Matthew Castle, Offi cial Nintendo Magazine, Tuesday August 26th

@natelanxon I do wonder how many TV execs reading the news about Twitch/Amazon are now having meetings about “this Twitch thing” and “should we rival?”

Nate Misneach Lanxon, Wired UK, Tuesday August 26th

@futterish Twitch community manager sees Amazon/Twitch partnership as a “win-win.” In other news, water is super wet.
