The satirical sci-fi classic gets the dark, gritty reboot treatment starring Joel Kinnaman alongside acting legends Gary Oldman and Samuel L Jackson

WHAT IS IT? RoboCop is a remake of the 1980s science fi ction classic of the same name and takes us to a future dominated by US-made peace keeping robots and drones. In Detroit, police detective Alex

Murphy is injured when a car bomb blows up outside his house. He sustains catastrophic injuries, but survives thanks to researchers at the sinister OmniCorp. Unfortunately his continued existence is at a cost – he is encased in a robotic suit. Yet he is not an eff ective crime-

fi ghting tool, yet, displaying reaction times too slow to be of any real use.

So the scientists start to meddle with his brain to make him as effi cient as possible – perhaps changing who he is forever.

WHY SHOULD I STOCK THIS? The cast features a number of big names, including Gary Oldman and Samuel L Jackson as well as Swedish actor Joel Kinnaman in the title role. RoboCop opened to mixed reviews

but made an impressive $242m (£144.4m) at the Global Box Offi ce. Many critics were disappointed that the fi lm did not have the same wit and socially satirical overtones as the original fi lms.

ONE of many cult series cancelled by Fox, Arrested Development made a triumphant return last year, but this time as a show produced by Netfl ix. Jason Bateman’s Michael Bluth is on a mission to get his family back together once more so that he can get their signatures to turn their story into a fi lm. Guess what might be planned next for the comedy series? The series’ trademark quirky humour returns, not quite as sharp as it was before but certainly better written than most American comedies. Make no mistake, this is still the Arrested Development that fans know and love.
