Marshall-Tufflex heavyweight newcomer floors competition Power and data delivery specialist Marshall-Tufflex has beefed up its Underfloor to Desk range with the launch of a new raised floor box strong enough to withstand the combined weight of 10 baby elephants. The new box is quicker and easier to install and comes

as standard with a market-leading 3mm support plate allowing it to handle ‘medium load’ traffic. For installations requiring ‘heavy load’ classification, a steel sub-frame can be ordered and quickly inserted (at a later date if building usage changes) to support the lid without restricting space for wiring and accessories.

During load

testing this steel sub-frame, which also allows for fine adjustments to accommodate uneven flooring, proved itself capable of withstanding a 1.25 tonne load. In addition, the 83mm deep floor

box has been designed with earth fixing points at each end, giving installers greater flexibility when positioning sockets. It is supplied with dividers that make it suitable for use as either a three or four compartment box. It has been designed and manufactured in accordance with the latest standards (BS EN 61534-22:2009, BS EN 60670-1:2005, BS EN 60670-23:2008, BS EN 50085-1:2005 and BS EN 50085-2-2:2008). n Email: marketing@marshall-tufflex.com or visit www.marshall-tufflex.com

Apollo Fire Detectors launches EN54- 11 approved manual call points Apollo’s new, extensive collection of EN54-11:2001 compliant manual call points has been designed and manufactured exclusively in-house by the company’s team of industry-leading experts, engineers and technicians. Currently available in XP95, Discovery and Waterproof

variants, the new call points feature a convenient re-settable element for quick and easy testing: a single ergonomically-designed tool is used for both the test and reset procedures. Installation is further eased with front- facing addressing, meaning there is no need to detach it from the backbox, which is supplied as standard for simple surface

mounting. The

products are also loop- powered and

feature ‘E-Z fit’ connectors to reduce and speed up wiring requirements, and have a continuity link to allow system wiring and testing prior to call point connection. Customers can choose whether to have an isolator included with the manual call points, which would eliminate the need for additional, separate isolation devices; isolator versions are also EN54-17 compliant. n Call 023 9249 2412 or visit www.apollo-fire.co.uk

Prysmian to protect patients at new hospital Leading UK fire safety and security provider Scotshield has chosen Prysmian FP cables for the fire safety systems in the New South Glasgow Hospital in the city. Scotshield specialises in life safety systems, and worked together with consultants to specify Prysmian FP PLUS enhanced fire resistant cable to ensure maximum safety and circuit integrity. Approximately 180,000m of Prysmian FP PLUS is currently being installed to connect in excess of 16,000 devices, such as call points and smoke detectors, in the campus. The FP range contains cables for most applications that require a fire resistant cable and they are designed and manufactured in the UK. The codes of practice for the design, installation and commissioning of electrical emergency systems each require fire-resistant cables for their power, control and communication. Prysmian FP range has a wide range of fire resistant solutions for each application. n Call 023 8029 5029 or email cables.marketing.uk@prysmian.com

New design for Dimplex recessed ceiling heater Dimplex has updated its AC3CN recessed ceiling heater for commercial buildings with a new white linear grille and hinged access for easy installation and connection. Designed to provide subtle heating where wall space

is limited and fast response is needed, the popular 1.5kW/3kW heater is recommended for ceilings up to 2.3m in height. A new hinged grille, which has been designed in line with customer feedback, will increase the speed of installation and ease of maintenance, saving time and money for installers compared to removable sections on the previous model. The existing grille has also been updated with a new, white linear design, which will blend in better with ceiling installations. Suitable for use as a ceiling heater or close to a door

as a ‘warm welcome’ in offices, retail, leisure and other commercial premises, the Dimplex AC3CN comes with wall mounted control as standard and is BEAB approved for extra peace of mind. n Call 0844 879 3587 or visit www.dimplex. co.uk/commercial

Fluke 1730 three-phase electrical energy logger simplifies energy waste Fluke has introduced the Fluke 1730 Three-Phase Energy Logger, an intuitive, easy-to-use tool with professional- level energy data-gathering capabilities. The Fluke 1730 breaks new ground by enabling a broader category of maintenance professionals to gather energy data confidently, while the accompanying Fluke Energy Analyze software scales from the analysis and reporting needs of the facility manager to the advanced analytical requirements of electrical engineers. Even well

ABB drive makes British Airways flight simulator quieter British Airways (BA) pilots are benefiting from a quieter flight simulator environment following the installation of ABB drives in an air handling unit (AHU) at its Flight Training Centre near London’s Heathrow Airport. The AHU is used to cool the flight deck and

instruments on one of its Boeing 777 flight simulators. Previously, the AHU’s fan motor was run at constant speed but generated high noise levels. By using a 5.5 kW ABB HVAC drive at 39 Hz, the same flow rate can be obtained at a lower motor speed, resulting in a reduction in noise from 80 dBA to 73 dBA. Reducing the unwanted background noise generated by the supply fan has made it easier for the crew to hear conversations and spoken instructions. In addition to the noise reduction, the drives cut

energy costs, with a payback of less than a year. n Call 01925 741 111 or visit www.abb.co.uk/energy

run facilities can experience energy waste, most commonly through equipment and system

inefficiencies or by operating at expensive times of the day. The Fluke 1730 negates the need for expensive

power quality analysers operated by engineers with advanced training. The 1730 is a streamlined energy logging tool with a straightforward, intuitive design, allowing technicians to carry out load studies and energy logging right out of the box. The results provide facility managers with the information necessary to identify and prioritise energy saving projects. n Call 020 7942 0700 or visit www.fluke.co.uk
