EV initiatives BEAMA has helped form an Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Project (BEVIP), aimed at bringing together organisations interested in developing the UK charging infrastructure. The organisation has also published its excellent BEAMA guide to Electric Vehicle Infrastructure. This provides best practice guidance: modes, plugs/socket-outlets and their domestic, public and commercial application. BEAMA’s CEO, Dr. Howard Porter, commented:

‘With the expectation for 1.5 million plug-in vehicles by 2020, BEAMA is working with the Office of Low Emission Vehicles (OLEV), other

government departments, vehicle manufacturers, utilities and the IT industry to create an effective infrastructure.’

And finally Bill Wright, head of Energy Solutions at the ECA, believes that, although slow to take off, EVs will offer increasing opportunities as the market and infrastructure develop: ‘The future of electric vehicles looks very bright, despite a slow start. This slow start may be advantageous, however, as we have to have the charging infrastructure in place to enable full use of the EV capabilities.’

Voltimum Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Expert Panel

Voltimum UK and its manufacturing and other partners that are involved in EVs and related infrastructures, have formed an Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Expert Panel. The members of this panel meet

together regularly, aiming to bring EV issues and opportunities both to manufacturers involved in building EV equipment and EV infrastructures, and to Voltimum UK users. This panel issues technical white papers on EVs, will be providing webinars and seminars, and is prepared also to

answer frequently asked and specific questions. The latter can be done from www.voltimum.co.uk/evi within the Technical Topics area. The current members of this panel

are: Eric Anderson (expert panel chairman), sales and marketing manager, Siemens; Martin Hale, head of sales and marketing, EV charging infrastructure, ABB; Alex Goodwin, coordinator – BEAMA electric vehicle infrastructure project (BEVIP), BEAMA; Philip Dingle, power utilities and networks segment manager, Eaton;

Bill Wright, head of energy solutions, ECA; Alastair Ramsay, sustainable development manager, Legrand; and David Greaves, business development manager, Schneider Electric. The voltimum expert panel recently

participated in the Low Carbon Vehicle (LCV) show – the largest yet – in partnership with show owner and organiser CENEX. The panel provided a tour of the event for invited VIP guests, and took part in the extensive seminar sessions. See www.voltimum.co.uk/ articles/ for more details.
