tradespeople, particularly those operating as sole traders. But it’s these people that really need the cover when ill health means loss of work and loss of income. However, the cover available through the ECIS is completely flexible and cost-effective, ensuring protection is accessible for all. Covers range from full private medical insurance, including cancer cover with no limits, to cash plans and dental plans. Perhaps most importantly, health assessments are available either as part of a plan or taken as a standalone service. Early detection of illness can be important in

improving the outcome of treatment. According to private healthcare specialist Bupa’s statistics, more than a third of people who had a health assessment were made aware of a health issue they had not previously known about, enabling them to take action and help to minimise their risk of disease. This is all about providing the best chance of catching and treating illnesses early and efficiently.

Prevention Up to 80 per cent of Type 2 diabetes cases could be prevented through lifestyle changes. It’s not just a question of fate. By doing relatively simple things like losing some weight, eating more fruits and vegetables and becoming more active, it’s possible to significantly reduce the risk. But unless people understand the seriousness of the condition, they are unlikely to see the need to find out their own risk or make the lifestyle changes that can help prevent it. So if you haven’t had

a health assessment in the last five years, perhaps now’s the time to get one booked. It’s just two or three hours out of one day, but it could set you on the right path to a healthier and longer future.
