IN THE spotlight

Warren Reid Dot Hill director of marketing EMEA

QMost valuable lesson learnt?

A Never turn down a trek from Everest base camp to the Rongbuk Glacier just because your camera is out of film. It’s funny what high altitude can do, luckily at the time I was reminded that although I had no film I still possessed a memory!

QOne company to watch (other than your own)?

A TV broadcasting company Sinclair Broadcast Group. It’s not mainstream

IT but I am really interested in the way the company is developing and I think there are many lessons the IT sector can learn by looking at Sinclair’s progress. The company already owns, operates or provides support to 149 TV stations, and is now working with radio stations too.

QGoing out or staying in?

A Sharing good food and drink at home with friends is often hard to beat.

QStaycation or exotic location?

A With three kids and two dogs the staycation features highly right now.

QA book, a movie or the TV?

A Books and movies for me, and one day maybe I will be able to indulge in these when not on a long haul flight. I’m a big fan of historical fiction and have worked my way through most of Bernard Cornwell, Conn Iggulden and the like.

QIf you weren’t an IT exec, what would you like to be?

A Restaurant owner, but front-of-house only as my cooking skills would

crumble under pressure. QDog or cat?

A Well, I had a cat and was allergic to dogs until the family advised me to ‘get over it’ so now we have both.

QIn charge for the day, what world problem would you address?

A The difficulty of using a laptop screen outside in bright sunlight. I once

developed a laptop sun shield from an old cardboard box, but working outside with your head in a box was not the alfresco working experience I was looking for.

QShirt and tie or dress down?

A Being of non-standard proportions, I have suits and shirts made to measure, and I like to get good value from them. I just replaced my dinner jacket with a kilt outfit made in the Reid tartan.

QSport - spectator or participator?

A I’ve got back into cycling in a big way this year and just completed the London to Brighton off-road ride ... I’m now working on a clip-on armchair saddle design for my mountain bike.

QYour three desert island music choices?

A Amon Amarth to give me energy, Miles Davis to complement the view and Delain to keep the imagination going.

QGuess who’s coming to dinner – your five guests, (real or fictional characters)?

A TV chefs Nigella Lawson, Rachel Allen, Giada De Laurentiis, Nadia Giosia, and

Sophie Dahl. I’d stack the dishwasher. November 2013 I www.dcseurope.info 53
