Setting the agenda for Europe’s IT decision makers
Once again the two-day conferences proved a resounding success with 1,261 quality delegates (end users, resellers, consultants, press, bloggers and analysts) in attendance – an increase of 4% compared with last year’s figures. Europe’s CIOs, IT managers and senior datacenter and cloud architects had the opportunity to hear from industry experts, independent analysts and top vendors and service providers on what new technologies were coming down the line and how organisations were facing up to the challenges of a Hybrid IT world.
THE AGENDA boasted over 130 sessions with the expo area playing home to 72 sponsors, 28 of which were new to the events for 2013. Through an extensive series of talks, case studies and panel debates across 8 theatres delegates were able to choose from a broad range of topics from information security to Big Data.
The whole event was kicked off with an excellent series of Keynote presentations from the major sponsors. Chris Johnson EMEA Vice President & General Manager, HP Storage, led off with a visionary talk on ‘Storage for the Next Era of IT’. This was splendidly supported by Robin Kuepers Storage Marketing Director, EMEA at Dell who ‘Redefined the Economics of Enterprise Storage’.
‘The Great IT Migration’ was then explained by Shaun Walsh, SVP of Marketing and Corporate Development at Emulex. Neil Caughey, EMEA Sales Director, Disk Storage Hardware Business Group at Oracle then gave his take on ‘Storage Strategies For

‘Securing your Data’ was moderated by Storage Switzerland and their Lead Analyst, George Crump, set the scene for the day by explaining why security was no longer optional and had to be built into the fabric of data management at all levels from user through to long life tape storage. George was ably supported in this overview of the issues of security by Kurt Hagerman, Director of Information Security at FireHost who focused on the issues when it comes to the Cloud and highlighted that ‘consumers cannot abdicate their compliance responsibility’ to cloud service providers.
Throughout this day long security stream delegates heard from expert speakers on a range of security issues from a mixture of vendors and independent speakers. A particularly well attended session was from Domenico Converso of - ICT Legal Consulting who pointed out that data security, when it comes to the cloud is not just a technical issue, but is also a legal/ contractual concern.
