tra unit to switch the plants on Fridays so the bridge workers can take the tres- tles out of service till Monday morning about 9:00 a.m. when the line re-opens. Starting in March 2014 the biggest bridge on the Northern Sub, Iron City, will also be replaced with steel.


What does the future hold? As the calendar turns from 2013 into 2014, it’s amazing that the B&P wood- en bridges on the Northern Sub lasted as long as they did. Because of them, the B&P has been forced to retain vin- tage EMD power on the line. Imagine a place where classic EMD power moves tank cars on a branch line featuring wooden trestles. A place like that still exists on the B&P’s Northern Sub. Dig in while you can.
