he Energy Event 2013 confirmed its status as the UK’s leading destination for energy efficiency, management and procurement, following keynote presentations from the UK’s energy leaders, including Edward Davey MP, Secretary of State for Energy & Climate Change. Having grown over the years and now supported by new specialist sister events to meet visitor demand for green energy (The Renewables Event) and water efficiency (The Water Event), this year’s combined conference and exhibition welcomed more than 6,172 visitors (unaudited) to the NEC last week. The free two-day Energy Event took place at the NEC, Birmingham from 10 to 11 September 2013. The show’s strongest conference programme to date provided access to 50 seminar sessions over three theatres, with standing room only for the show’s highest profile speakers. The most popular sessions included those from Edward Davey MP, Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change, economist and Oxford University Professor, Dieter Helm and Professor of Science and TV presenter, Lord Robert Winston. Key partners supporting The Energy Event 2013 included Energy Services & Technology Association (ESTA), The Energy Institute, British Compressed Air Society Ltd. (BCAS), Building Controls Industry Association (BCIA) and the Major Energy Users Council (MEUC).

Some of the speakers in this year’s conference programme were particularly outstanding and Dieter Helm was as inspirational as we all anticipated.” The Energy Event offered access to 130 exhibitors, including the largest energy companies such as npower, E.ON, Gazprom Energy, Scottish & Southern Energy, Cornwall Energy and DONG Energy. Steve Swaine, event director, said: “This year’s Energy Event has surpassed everyone’s expectations, with a varied range of exhibitors and our most distinguished speaker programme to date.
