Security & Access Control
APT Security Systems (part of the APT Controls group), the high-end integrator for high-performance vehicle access systems has installed a rising step barrier system at Hertfordshire’s Batchworth Park Golf Club, extending its portfolio of golf club clients. As a members’ golf club, Batchworth Park has a duty to provide its members, potential members and visitors with convenient and safe access to the Club’s car park. The Hydrakerb system was chosen because it could meet the specific customer requirements, striking the right balance between offering assured security against vehicle theft and vandalism, versus convenience for end-users. Batchworth’s access system has been designed so that during opening hours there is free entry into the car park allowing for fast and convenient access, and a code-activated exit system that enables the Golf Club management to monitor new users. Out of hours, the system changes to controlled entry.
Not only flexible, the Hydrakerb’s design is highly reliable, safe and robust. The vandal resistant Hydrakerb system comes with a stop and go traffic light, meaning there is no ambiguity as to when to drive in or out of the car park, it also has a highly

APT Security Systems was chosen over its competitors because of its expertise in offering clients a ‘one-stop-shop’ solution that could be tailored to Batchworth Park’s specific needs. This combined with recommendations from numerous other golf clubs and APT’s ISO accreditation made it a trustworthy choice.
Chris Rowlands, Managing Director of APT Security Systems is pleased that the firm’s reputation preceded it and that they were able to deliver a product and service that met the needs of the client. “The Hydrakerb is an ideal product for access systems that require a combination of solid, secure reliability and flexible user- friendliness. From a civil engineering point of view, the fact that our Hydrakerb only requires a 300mm install depth, means that we were able to provide the right access system with minimal disruption. This is always an important factor to consider as turning away paying guests and members is not an option,” says Chris. “Working with Batchworth Park we were able to identify the best time to complete the installation work and provide

Security Systems Technology Ltd (SST), have been awarded a multi-million-pound contract to design, build and commission a physical and logical IP security platform at ‘Central Exchange’, a new 110,000 sq ft data centre in Birmingham. The client, Data City Exchange (dce), wanted a managed security environment that will create a multi-layered and integrated defence platform including perimeter security, high-definition IP surveillance and biometric access control. dce design, build and supply data centre space to the corporate, government and carrier markets, delivering a scalable solution which allows customers to upgrade their cooling on a modular basis. SST specified both proven and emerging technologies (following extensive field testing) as well as developing bespoke integrations. IP technology is being used throughout to ensure future- proofing and a leading Physical Security Information Management (PSIM) software platform will provide an intuitive front end for operational security staff. This software-based integration platform connects and manages disparate building and security technologies. Aggregating intelligence from these systems, it will allow dce operators to react faster and more precisely to incidents through real- time situational awareness and a Common

SST’s innovative approach, in-depth knowledge of IP interoperability and response to the client’s requirement that the physical security solution should be bespoke and able to out- perform anything used before. During product research and field testing many systems didn’t make the grade and alternatives had to be sourced and tested. SST designed and built a multi-layered defence security platform including PSIM, a multi-zone fence-mounted perimeter intrusion detection system (PIDS), crash-tested trackless speed gates, ANPR, vehicle air locks and even a personnel ‘man-trap’ using volumetric detection. The site has over 150 x 5-megapixel IP CCTV cameras, military- grade thermal imaging CCTV cameras as well as target-tracking PTZ domes and intelligent video analytics. Access control provision includes iris recognition, multi- spectral fingerprint recognition, digital audio 2-way intercom and Tannoy. Chetan Vasudev, Managing Director
of SST, said: “With over 28 best-of- breed supply chain partners and under the guidance of third-party advisers and
Government bodies such as the CPNI, we were able to offer a unique security package that could effectively deal with the security, operational and corporate governance requirements on a project of this class and size. With their Evo-POD data centre solutions, dce are providing enterprise class cloud services and SST has matched the calibre of their offering with an exceptional physical security platform.” John Eland, Chief Executive of dce, said: “SST’s understanding of our complex requirements and the flexibility of their response were critical factors in our decision. We are creating cutting-edge data centre facilities and our ‘Evo-SEC’ security platform has to be industry- leading.”

APT has recently also launched its most environmentally friendly vehicle access solution, the Guardian Automatic Bollard. The product’s highlights include an 80 percent reduction in power consumption, installation that causes 49 percent less landfill waste and requires 52 percent less concrete when compared to equivalent automatic rising bollards. Full information on this innovative new product and its benefits will be released in due course. APT is currently seeking a number of locally based installers and distributers for its new Guardian product range, under exclusivity terms.
