TESCO PARTNERS FOR INTERNATIONAL MANAGED PRINT SERVICES

The UK supermarket giant is working with Lexmark to deliver measurable improvements in operational efficiency within its stores, enabling staff to focus on delivering the best customer experience

T

esco, the UK’s largest retailer and one of the world’s leading

international retailers, has chosen Lexmark as sole managed print services (MPS) partner for in-store operations across its UK, Ireland and Central European markets. The solution has delivered measurable improvements in operational efficiency. It is also enabling Tesco’s in-store workers. The retailer’s vision is to ensure

its instore employees have the tools they need to focus on delivering a first-class shopping experience for all customers. Both the quality of Tesco’s print infrastructure and of final printed material play a role in enabling its staff to deliver a great customer experience. In the past, Tesco has

encountered problems with print quality, printers running out of

supplies or breaking down and not being serviced quickly enough. Instore employees were unable to efficiently print point-of-sale (PoS) promotional and marketing material or shelf-edge labels. This is vital for Tesco, which wants to provide clear and accurate pricing and promotion information to its customers at the shelf edge. Tesco required a reliable print

service for its stores that was simple to use and would save time and money. The number of issues also had to greatly reduce and those that did arise should be identified and then fixed in a timely manner. Tesco was seeking a partner that could operate flexibly and internationally, as well as provide innovative new ideas and technology. “Ultimately we were looking for somebody who can deliver something that is better for

our customers,” stated Rob Hattrell, Tesco UK stores IT director. In October 2011, Tesco signed

a three-year MPS contract with Lexmark covering all printers, print consumables and maintenance. This saw Tesco introduce 9,000 Lexmark devices in its stores across the European region, including Lexmark’s award winning colour and multi-function devices, such as the X654. One key benefit of these devices is that they offer high quality printing on a wide variety of media, which ensures a professional print result instore every time. The Lexmark MPS system also

manages these devices effectively and efficiently. Status information on the printer estate is available automatically and proactively monitored by Lexmark. Replacement supplies are now sent centrally
