news Italy’s injection machine exports up
Italy’s injection moulding machinery manufacturers posted a 23% increase in exports during the first half of 2013 to reach €57m, according to the latest data from machinery association Assocomaplast. Italian exports of plastics machinery overall held fairly firm during the first half, with the total value falling by just 2% to €1.2bn. However, imports were down by more
than 6% to €279m, reflecting the continuing weak state of the Italian economy. “The downturn in imports is
a symptom of a domestic market that still struggles to recover,” says the association. Assocomaplast’s most
recent survey of business confidence, carried out at the beginning of last month, showed producers were “moderately optimistic”. ❙
