show preview Smart solution to barrel heating

Hall 11/A26 SmartHeat is a new barrel heating technology from Nordson Xaloy that is claimed to offer improved performance and energy consumption while improving the safety for staff in the mould shop. The ‘cool to the touch’

barrel heating system comprises a coating of two layers of plasma-sprayed metallized ceramic sandwich- ing a nichrome wire wrap heater element. The entire system is then enclosed in a protective thermal insulation cover. It can be used at temperatures up to 400˚C.

The highly effective insulation wrap eliminates the risk of burns for the operator, says the company. Safety is also enhanced due to the placement of all of the electrical wiring beneath the insultation. And, as the system is designed to last the life of the barrel, maintenance is reduced. In a side-by-side compari-

According to Xaloy, because the heat from the wires is conducted throughout the ceramic material it raises the barrel temperature more quickly and evenly than traditional band heaters, which

makes more efficient use of heater energy input. At the same time, losses are virtually eliminated by the insulation wrap. The company claims a 30-60% efficiency improve- ment.

Stratasys to ‘print’ moulds Hall 2/G23

3D printing specialist Stratsys will have two stands at K2013. The main stand in Hall 2 will show examples from the company’s latest equipment range, including a uPrint SE Plus model from the Idea Series, an Objet30 Pro 3D printer from the Design Series, and a Fortus 250MC production model.

However, injection moulding visitors may be more interested in the company’s display in Hall 4 (Stand 4D27) where it will be using an Objet260 Connex 3D printer to print fast-turn- around moulds that will then be mounted in a Babyplast 6/10P micro injection moulding machine to turn out real parts. ❙ www.stratasys.com

Electric activation at HRSflow

Hall 1/B08 Italian hot runner systems supplier HRSflow will be showing its FLEXflow electri- cally activated valve pin system. The new system allows

precise control of the position, speed, stroke and acceleration

of the valve pin and is particu- larly suited to applications such as sequential filling of large automotive components or production of components requiring high aesthetics. The FLEXflow valve pin

system can also be used to

regulate pressure drops. The FLEXflow system is

controlled by a special control unit, which allows positional accuracy to tiwhin 0.01mm. The controller is available config- ured for 8, 12 or 16 zones. ❙ www.hrsflow.com

son, Xaloy says the SmartHeat system brought all the zones on the injection barrel of its test machine to the target temperature in 15 minutes against 23 minutes for traditional band heaters. ❙ www.xaloy.com

Elmet puts LSR in

spotlight Hall 12/E49-7 Liquid silicone rubber process- ing equipment maker Elmet will show the latest version of its Top 3000 two-component metering technology, which is now available in both top and side loading variants. The company will also show

its new mould system for UV curing of LSR. By allowing the material to be cold-cured, UV technology opens the way to combine LSR with thermoplas- tics with low melting points. The system uses transparent mould elements and long-life LEDs to initiate vulcanising of the LSR. It will be shown in operation on the Momentive Performance Materials stand (Hall 8/G45). ❙ www.elmet.com
