ONTHETEE - PAUL CASEY Case Knowledge

Paul Casey is a 12-time European Tour winner who recently ended a frustrating form and fitness drought by clinching the 2013 Irish Open. Having secured his first title for two-and-a-half years, the man from Weybridge discusses his return to title success, the golfing retail industry, and some of his favourite clubs

Paul, congratulations on your recent win at the Irish Open! How good did it feel to get back to winning ways and your first title since 2011? It was an incredible feeling. Two-and-a-half

years has seemed like an awful long time and when I managed to sink that last putt it was a huge relief. All of the stress liſts, and the happiness just settles around you. It’s an incredible feeling, and I think the fact it was an exciting finish made it even better. To win any tournament is a fantastic feeling, but aſter such a long gap for me, it was a really special moment. I didn’t actually get off to the best start, and the

weather wasn’t great either. But I managed to get some momentum aſter a succession of good putts, and the confidence was increasing. Golf is so reliant on confidence, more than any other game. The good thing is, once it’s there, it’s sometimes difficult to lose! The Irish Open has a great heritage, and when

you see your name on the trophy next to Seve’s, it makes it all the sweeter. The Irish crowds are fantastic and it was great to win in front of them.
