Hosted buyer opportunity for EIBTM, Barcelona

Barcelona may be home to Gaudi’s Sagrada Familia, the shopping boulevard of La Rambla and flamenco dance but it’s also playing host to EIBTM 2013 – a trade event aimed at those booking meetings and travel. And Executive PA Magazine has teamed up with the event to offer a hosted buyer scheme to 10 lucky readers. The all-expenses paid trip to Barcelona is happening November 20-21 and will include return economy flights, overnight accommodation in a 4/5* hotel, coach transfers while in Barcelona, refreshments and lunch in the exclusive buyers’ lounge at the show, admission to EIBTM and the office networking events plus pre-scheduled appointments. RESEARCH An ageing workforce is worried

As figures from the Office for National Statistics show that workers aged 65 years or older have topped one million for the first time, a poll has revealed that many of us fear working into old age. The Chartered Society of Physio- therapists and Aviva questioned people’s attitude to working as they got older and found that 60 per cent of workers fear they won’t be up to the job mentally or physically. With an increasing age of retirement and fears about funding life post-work, despite their concerns many workers will be working past 65.

opportunities you’ll be able to access the companies that can make organising overseas travel and meetings a breeze. So if you’re a PA who is tasked with booking international events and travel and would like to take advantage of this fantastic opportunity please email Leah@ExecutivePA.com to express your interest in joining us.

What have you done today? What haven’t I done today? I caught up on emails after being on leave on Friday; the usual manic diary management and travel arrangements. Sent out comms to the business on streamlining our room booking procedure and our Christmas party. Took another look at the office* event I’m attending in October, spent some time with my mentee looking at her role and development. Plus everything else we all do day-to-day to keep everything and everyone running smoothly.

What’s in your top drawer? My top drawer isn’t the neatest – it’s full of stamps, staples, paper clips, a pack of brazil nuts, envelopes, comp slips, blu tac and vitamin C.

What skills do you use most at work? The main skills I use are my organisational skills, my influencing skills and my communication skills. I think everything else comes as a result of those.

What do you see for the future of the PA? I hope the future of the PA is a bright one full of opportunities! More and more companies are realising the importance of a PA and the difference between an assistant and a secretary. Our executives could not do their roles efficiently if it wasn’t for us and the fact that more of them see this is really positive. I think it will continue to improve and with the likes of Executive PA Magazine and the office* event I think we’re being given a great platform to help ourselves.
