READER PANEL
Each issue our 2013 Reader Panel and facebook friends discuss a hot topic affecting PAs – what do you think?
Discussion:Do you use Apps to make your job easier?
Debbie McGibbon, 2012 Newcomer of the Year, Instant
“Absolutely! I use several apps but the most notable ones which save me time are:
1 GoogleMaps: to make appointments logistically feasible
2 Notes: to constantly re-prioritise my to-do list
3 Squaremeal: to make restaurant reservations
4 London Tube Status: to make sure the team get to meetings on time.”

Judy Willet, 2012 PA of the Year, Carpetright
“I am a great user of Google as I’m always being set challenges which need to be investigated before I can move forward. I’m not sure how I coped pre-Google and Google maps. Lord Harris quite often wants to see a High Street or overview of an area for a possible new store and Google Maps enables me to show him not only the full location but also the direct vicinity itself. I’m also always looking for airports and hotels close to show jumping events or anything else Lord Harris is involved in so again Google is where I start. This saves such a lot of time telephoning people trying to piece together the information I need.”

Marie-Claire Andrews: ShowGizmo, Evernote, WorldTime,
ex.com, Meetup and Xero!
Cheryl Carvalho-Mathew: Google Maps, EX, LinkedIn.
Briony Lipton: Teuxdeux is the best list app I’ve found. It’s great for on-going and repeat tasks and planning out your weekly to-do lists.
Victoria Darragh, Executive Assistant, Hays
“In the last couple of years I have started to use numerous apps to assist me in my role, and to access the key websites I used for my Directors and myself when out of the office. Without a doubt the Trainline is one of my favourites, but in addition I also have apps such as Trip Advisor, Skype, Bookatable, National Rail, BBC News, British Airways, Twitter, LinkedIn, Amazon, Eventbrite and a tube map. They are brilliant, but if you’re not in a 3G area it can be frustrating if you can’t quickly access information.” Twitter: @victoriadarragh
Josephine Green, Freelance celebrity PA
“I don't really use any apps for work. I personally use a few travel, parking and social media apps which overlap into my role. But mainly, I'm a pen and paper kind of person. And luckily for me, so are my clients. I have all the kit: BlackBerry, iPad, etc, but probably not enough know-how to make it all work its hardest for me. But, I'd rather write a note on an actual Post-it and stick it on my computer rather than have a virtual one in it anyway!” Twitter: @PAAccessAllArea
Eleanor Marshall: Yes – TopTable, Addison Lees, Google Maps, Over (for social media posts), LinkedIn, SquareMeal, WorldTime, Xe.
Christian Crozier: WorldTime for sure.
