Postgraduate Certificate in Education: Dance Teaching

WHAT WAS YOUR BACKGROUND BEFORE STARTING YOUR STUDIES WITH RAD? I graduated with a First Class BA (Hons) Dance Studies degree from Middlesex University in 2011. After graduating, I worked as a teaching assistant in many schools including behavioural, emotional and social specialist schools and a residential special school for pupils with complex learning difficulties. This is where I found my passion of working with young people. I also worked for the National Dance Teachers Association (NDTA) as Programme Co-ordinator.

WHAT DO YOU HOPE TO DO ONCE YOU GRADUATE? WHAT ARE YOUR FUTURE ASPIRATIONS? When I graduate I hope to work within education to inspire pupils. My future aspirations are to travel the world and work with underprivileged children and those with Special Educational Needs. I would like to use my previous experience and the skills I have acquired at RAD to make an impact on young people’s lives.

WOULD YOU RECOMMEND THIS PROGRAMME TO OTHERS? I would recommend this programme to those that have a passion for working with young people. It is very demanding but so rewarding when you look back at what you have achieved in such a short amount of time.

HOW HAVE THE PROFESSIONAL TEACHING PLACEMENTS ON THE PROGRAMME HELPED YOU? The professional teaching placements have really helped me to experience working with a diverse range of learners. I have also been able to transfer the skills I have learnt at RAD to develop my teaching practice.

ARE YOU PLANNING ANY FURTHER STUDY? I would like to further my study in movement therapy and child psychology or study a Masters in Education to enable me to further my career.
