Certificate in Ballet Teaching Studies
WHAT WAS YOUR BACKGROUND BEFORE STARTING YOUR STUDIES WITH RAD? Prior to starting this programme I was a professional dancer and model. At 16 I began my training at Arts Educational School, Tring Park, where I completed a two year dance and musical theatre course. Upon leaving Tring, I decided to further my training at London Studio Centre where I gained a foundation degree in Dance. After graduating, I worked extensively within the dance industry, this also included editorial & commercial modelling work. However after a blip with my health it became apparent this career was not to last forever so I began looking at other options and having always wanted to teach at some stage I felt this was the right time to start.
WHAT DO YOU HOPE TO DO ONCE YOU GRADUATE? WHAT ARE YOUR FUTURE ASPIRATIONS? Having already opened a small dance school in North West London I hope to build on this with the knowledge gained from the Certificate in Ballet Teaching Studies. I will also use my qualification to enter students into RAD ballet exams.
WOULD YOU RECOMMEND THIS PROGRAMME TO OTHERS? I would recommend this course to anyone who is thinking about becoming an RAD ballet teacher. Having already trained at two top vocational schools I didn’t think there could be a lot more to learn, however, I was mistaken! The course has already enabled me to become a competent teacher and I hope to learn a lot more before the end of the programme.
HOW HAS STUDYING WITH THE RAD ENHANCED YOUR TEACHING CAREER? It has enhanced it in many ways, from the importance of class plans, time management, health and safety knowledge, the understanding of child protection and much more.
AS A DISTANCE LEARNER, HOW DID YOU COMBINE YOUR WORK/STUDY COMMITMENTS? Before I began the programme I didn’t appreciate how difficult this would be. I have my own business which takes up a lot of my time, however, I came to realise this needed to be balanced with my studies, so I devised a strict timetable which I followed in order for the work to be completed on time.
ARE YOU PLANNING ANY FURTHER STUDY? I am now in my second year of the programme and although I am looking forward to being fully qualified I have not ruled out any future study. You are never too old to keep learning!
