build and educate a broad range of consumers to the benefits of LED (rather than focussing on simply selling to the converted) together with strong brand values which build on the environmental benefits of LED lighting. LED Hut is different to competitor businesses because it is more than just an ecommerce site. We strive to be the ultimate online resource for LED lighting – the place customers can come to find all the help and advice they are looking for to pick the right LED solution for their needs. This combined with our specialist LED knowledge and customer-centric approach sets us apart from other online and offline competitors.

What has been your biggest challenge to date and how did you overcome it? The main challenge has been starting and growing a successful business in a young, competitive and rapidly changing new marketplace – and one where customer education is at the heart of everything. In the face of these conditions, the team has worked hard to carve out a clear point of difference for the company as a trusted, information-rich resource that evolves with the market and focuses on its customers. This has enabled us to grow the business from small beginnings to where it is now, with a dominant share in the UK’s online LED market and established online stores in France, Germany, Australia and many other locations around the globe.

Where do you see the LED market in 5 years time? Energy efficiency continues to play an important role in the market, driven by legislative changes and increasing fuel bills. The EU has given the target of 2016 to phase out halogen bulbs and any bulb available for purchase after the 2016 date must be an energy saving bulb. In the UK, all incandescent light bulbs were banned at the end of last year, meaning that increasing numbers of consumers are actively looking for energy-saving alternatives.

The LED market grew by around 50% in 2012, and this huge growth is set to continue at an even more rapid rate as LED technology becomes more widely accepted in the mainstream. Latest market figures expect the LED lighting market to quadruple by 2016.

What can we expect in the future from LED Hut? We’re committed to continuing to grow LED Hut as the number one specialist online resource for competitively priced, top- quality LEDs – in the UK and across the world. This means continuing to increase awareness, uptake, and ultimately helping reduce lighting bills and carbon emissions on an international scale.

With further expansion planned into a number of other countries and territories, LED Hut is set for world LEDomination!
