Bryan Brothers - Tennis HEAD TO HEAD top of the men’s doubles game.
How would you describe the dynamic between the two of you out on court? Is there a natural leader or is it completely equal?
and Mike is leſty. Bob has a big serve and Mike has a great return. Bob has more pop on his strokes and Mike is more precise on his strokes. We also know what shot the other is going to hit before he’s hit it, so we are always in sync.
have achieved what we have achieved in our careers without continually pushing each other to be better. That competitiveness is still in us today and is a big reason why we have continued to find success at 35 years old.
What would you say are the main reasons that you have dominated the men’s doubles game for such a long period of time? One of the main reasons is that we have played with each other our entire careers, and only each other. So many great doubles teams have broken up and switched partners. No matter how rough of a patch we may hit, we know that we will always play with each other. There is no “looking over our backs” after a bad tournament, and that loyalty to each other has helped us to stay on
www.activinstinct.com 35 Bob is righty
It is completely equal out there. We complement each other’s games extremely well. Bob is righty and Mike is lefty. Bob has a big serve and Mike has a great return. Bob has more pop on his strokes and Mike is more precise on his strokes. We also know what shot the other is going to hit before he’s hit it, so we are always in sync. That comes from playing a lot of matches together.
With a career that boasts so many incredible highlights can you pick out the top 3 most memorable achievements and why? The most memorable achievement was definitely winning the gold medal in London last year. We both really wanted to bring home a gold medal for the USA, so that was without a doubt number one. Number two is winning Davis Cup in 2007. As you can tell, we are extremely patriotic and absolutely love Davis Cup. Number 3 is a tough one, but we would have to say our first Grand Slam title was pretty special. We won the 2003 French Open without dropping and the feeling was surreal.
How’s your band going, do you plan on releasing a new album at some stage? We’re not working on a new album at the moment, but we are still playing as much music as possible on our down time. We could see ourselves releasing a new album eventually, but we’re focusing primarily on our tennis right now.
