While on the radar of a few clubs for a while now, it took a Herculean performance against Barcelona in the Champions League for everyone to really sit up. The Kenyan is still young, just 22, with a big, powerful frame to break arrives at St Mary’s with a big fee, big reputation, and a big gamble from Southampton to stump up the cash. Jack Cork and Morgan Schneiderlin formed an excellent for the Saints last season, and breaking them up is a risk, but on his day Wanyama can be an absolute monster.

It says much about the Canaries’ progress as a club that the Dutchman left Sporting Lisbon to move to East Anglia (no offence intended). Chris Hughton has done a steady and admirable job at Carrow Road, identifying a lack of goals as a problem last term. Along with van Wolfswinkel, comes forwards Gary Hooper and fellow Dutchman, Leroy Fer. Who out of the three will be deployed most, well, we’ll have to see, but in van Wolfswinkel Norwich have secured a young striker of real quality. Norwich fans, or anyone else for that matter, who may have been surprised by the capture, can thank Dutch legend Johan Neeskens for the recommendation.
