HP REVEALS Q3 SALES FALL AND LEADERSHIP CHANGES HP has announced a top-level restructure after Q3 2013 sales fell. Third quarter net revenue reached $27.2 billion, down eight per cent year-on-year, while cash flow dipped six per cent to $2.7 billion. Bill Veghte, HP COO, will become executive VP and general manager of the HP Enterprise Group, Dave Donatelli will take on a new role focused on identifying early-stage technologies, while HP will combine its marketing and communications departments under the leadership of CCO Henry Gomez.

DISTRIBUTORS FOR EVO SSD RANGE


Samsung SSD has named the three UK distribution partners for its new range of 840 EVO Solid State Drives. The range is available now and is being supplied by Micro-P, M2M and Smithie UK direct to the trade. The new line-up makes use of the compact 10-nanometer class 128GB high-performance NAND flash memory, which Samsung began mass-producing in April.


NEW FASHIONABLE IT ACCESSORIES BROCHURE Westcoast has launched a new brochure for summer/autumn 2013 showing the growing integration between high-end fashion and IT accessories.


The new brochure breaks up products into different areas that cover commercial and consumer accessories, and is designed to make it easier for resellers to find the right IT accessories for their customers.

Gem picks up distribution rights to Call of Duty, Z300 and Z22 products

A NEW RANGE of Turtle Beach products can give the PC gaming headset market a much-needed lift, says Gem. The distributor and retail services


provider has just announced a collaboration with the audio brand and will now supply Turtle Beach multiplatform headsets to the trade. The range includes Call of Duty: Ghosts branded headsets, as well as the Ear Force Z300 and Z22 products (you can read more information on page 62). Gem’s head of category Jonathan Sutherland told PCR: “Turtle Beach is the number one gaming audio brand in the market, and with such an impressive line-up of headsets targeting the console gamer, Gem will be looking to raise the


profile of their PC headsets to the same level, as well as driving sales across the console range. “This year, Turtle Beach


announced a major commitment to the PC gaming market introducing several new PC gaming headsets including the Ear Force Z22 and the Ear Force Z300. “Turtle Beach is a key brand for Gem


to have on board, especially with the imminent launch of Xbox One. With the strength of the Turtle Beach brand, we expect these products to be well received in the market and look forward to seeing their sales grow.” The Z22 is a wired stereo USB headset

3D printers make retail debut


But independent retailers remain sceptical about future for object-making devices

THE FUTURISTIC 3D printing phenomenon has finally landed in UK retailers.


Maplin and Selfridges are among the


first chains to take the plunge and stock the devices, which can print 3D objects out of plastic. The Velleman K8200 3D printing kit


– available now from Maplin – is priced at £699.99 and uses special computer software to work. Meanwhile, Selfridges will sell several devices within a 3D printing pop-up store in its Oxford Street store this Christmas. Additionally, the MakerBot Digitizer


Desktop 3D Scanner, which scans real life objects and transforms them into 3D


printing models, is also headed to the High Street. UK retailers can stock it via specialist distributors Reprap Central and Robosavvy.


But independent IT retailers and


resellers aren’t convinced about the value 3D printers offer. Kim Hayton, manager of Triarom,


told PCR: “I hear that 3D printers are going to become a household thing, but I don’t see households or businesses having them. They’re not going to have multiple uses day in day out. If we were to look at 3D printing, we’d only get one


so we could produce things in-store for customers as a service.” Daniel Micklethwait, general manager at Knutsford IT, added: “They’re specialist. There are probably clients we have that could have a 3D printer, for exampe R&D companies. “But if anyone wanted one in that


specialist niche area, they’d buy one themselves rather than heading to their nearby computer store. “3D printers are expensive and


technical to use, but it’s certainly an interesting area.”
