Championships. Knowing that anything can happen makes
Brubaker and Davis, 21, optimistic about their chances at Skate Canada as well as qualifying for the Olympics. “Tings are always wide open,” Brubaker
said. “Tat’s the great thing about sports in gener- al, anything can happen at any time. It’s all about the next seven months — every day counts.” Aldridge and Eaton, two-time World Junior
bronze medalists, received an invitation to com- pete at Cup of China. “I lived in Beijing with my family 17 years
ago,” Aldridge said. “It will be great to go back because Beijing was where I first stepped on the ice.”
Te duo enters the Olympic campaign, they said, with nothing to lose. “We haven’t yet skated anywhere in Asia but
we hear how amazing it is to perform in front of the fans,” Eaton said. “We can’t wait to go out show our new programs and enjoy the experi- ence.”
While Team USA has many newcomers to
the Grand Prix Series, it also has several veterans who figure to challenge for medals and spots at the Grand Prix Final. Olympic champion Evan Lysacek is sched- uled to compete at Skate America. It would be the first time that the 28-year-old from Naper- ville, Ill., has competed since his triumph in Vancouver in 2010. Joining Lysacek in Detroit will be all the 2013 U.S. champions: Max Aar- on, Ashley Wagner, Marissa Castelli and Simon Shnapir and Meryl Davis and Charlie White. Five-time reigning U.S. ice dance champi-
ons Davis and White hope to win their record fifth consecutive Grand Prix Final title. Tey’ll compete at Skate America, where they have won three straight titles, and NHK Trophy in Japan.
Alexandra Aldridge and Daniel Eaton enter their first Grand Prix Series season with a nothing-to-lose attitude.
Rockne Brubaker and Lindsay Davis make their Grand Prix Series debut together under coaches Marina Zoueva and Johnny Johns.
