endeavours with her academic goals - Mari is a Rhodes Scholar at Oxford University. That said, difficult for Mari included 3rd at the Xterra World Championships, 4th at the Virgin Active London Triathlon and 8th at the World Student games.
RHYS DAVEY, 22
2013 TARGET: Developing into non- drafting racing, including 5150 racing and 70.3 racing.
PROFILE: The baby of the team and the “new boy”. Finding his feet at senior level after some top results as a junior, he’s had some big crashes at Windsor and the French Grand Prix (he also crashed in training the day before speaking to us!). As part of his on-going development, Rhys was also able to spend some time training in St. Moritz with the Brownlee brothers, an invaluable experience. He thought triathlon looked fun when aged 10, and joined in for the challenge.
FAVOURITE LOCATION YOU’VE RACED IN?Abu Dhabi was amazing. Fantastic race and we got to go onto the F1 circuit as well.
WIN a Timex Run 2.0 GPS watch, thanks to fellow team
WHO, OUT OF YOUR OTHER TEAMMATES, TRAINS THE HARDEST?
sponsors TIMEX
We don’t train altogether, but probably Dave – he is a workhorse. He churns out the miles. He gets good results because he paces himself. He’s got a reputation.
AND WHICH ONE HAS THE WORST FASHION SENSE? Dave - he’s got a bit to learn.
WHAT’S YOUR SIGNATURE DISH IN THE KITCHEN? I make a very, very good risotto. I mix it up, but a mushroom risotto with a white fish wrapped in pancetta.

IF WE GAVE £10 TO SPEND,WHAT WOULD YOU BUY? Well I’m starving right now so probably breakfast! A sausage sandwich, well I’ve got a tenner, so two sausages sandwiches….. and an omelette….and a hot chocolate!
JOANNA CARRIT, 36
2013 TARGET: Qualify for the Ironman World Championships in Kona and Achieve a PB at Ironman Frankfurt (under 9:40).
PROFILE: Jo is the team’s long distance specialist. For her, even a half Ironman is considered short and she has the work ethic to match - sometimes to her own detriment! In 2010 she stormed onto the UK long course scene with 3rd place at Ironman UK, thus qualifying for the Ironman World Championships in Hawaii. Jo got into triathlon as “a dare” laid down by the group of guys she first started running with. “We bought bikes, trained a bit, rented wetsuits and did the Sprint race. I was hooked!!!”
BEST ADVICE YOU’VE RECEIVED? You have to enjoy the process.
IF WE GAVE £10 TO SPEND,WHAT WOULD YOU BUY? £10 worth of Nespresso pods, coffee is a good friend of mine.
IT’S OUR ROUND AT THE BAR,WHAT ARE YOU DRINKING? As a Scot, I should say a whiskey, but if I was honest it would be a nice South American beer.
MARI RABIE, 26
2013 TARGET: British Super Series, ITU Continental, World Cups and some European Xterras.
PROFILE: Already an Olympian having represented South Africa in Beijing, 2011 and 2012 were difficult seasons for Mari, as she balanced her sporting
WHAT DO YOU ENJOY MOST ABOUT IT? I loved the variety of training, riding my bike very fast, the huge buzz around the event but most of all it was the people that I met that caused me to fall in love with the sport
...the community and the lifestyle.
WEIRDEST/FUNNIEST THING WHILE COMPETING? I was having an awful day at Ironman Florida, throwing up and all sorts on the run
course...and made the call to pull out and post my first ever DNF. I was gutted, standing
LOIS ROSINDALE, 23
2013 TARGET: Medal at World U23’s Triathlon Championships.
PROFILE: Lois has been a part of the team since its initiation in 2009, and got started in the sport when she was about 14: “I was a gymnast, so I couldn’t swim, ride or run….at all! But I got too tall for gymnastics, and I didn’t want to give up sport, my next-door neighbour did triathlon and he got me to join with him. The first triathlon I ever did, I did most of the swim breaststroke! I wasn’t great hahaha!”
FAVOURITE DISCIPLINE OF THE THREE? Running, definitely. It’s the freedom, you can do it anywhere, and you don’t need any equipment to do it.
WHO, OUT OF YOUR OTHER TEAMMATES, TRAINS THE HARDEST? Probably Dave.
AND WHICH ONE HAS THE WORST FASHION SENSE? Oh god! I would say Dave as well!
BEST ADVICE YOU’VE RECEIVED? When I first started I would get quite overwhelmed –who’s got better kit than me, who’s done a faster time etc. So, just think about yourself, don’t worry about what others are doing.
IF WE GAVE £10 TO SPEND,WHAT WOULD YOU BUY? Sweets. Pick n mix and bubble gum – I live off bubble gum.

HOW DID YOU GET INTO TRIATHLON? I started doing triathlon at the age of 8. My sister, 4 years my senior was doing triathlon and I was tired of spectating!
FAVOURITE LOCATION YOU’VE RACED IN?I loved Maui - having grown up in Cape Town I’m a massive, sunshine & beach girl, so Maui was great.
WHO, OUT OF YOUR OTHER TEAMMATES, TRAINS THE HARDEST? Probably Dave.
AND WHICH ONE HAS THE WORST FASHION SENSE? Dave again!
WHATWAS THE LAST FILM YOU WATCHED, AND WAS IT ANY GOOD? The Great Gatsby - it was good, although Daisy annoyed me in the book and in the movie.
IT’S OUR ROUND AT THE BAR,WHAT ARE YOU DRINKING? Double vodka, lime and soda without the vodka.
at the roadside, virtually in tears and torn. Luckily, I was standing close to an aid station where all of the volunteers were dressed as
Santa....and engaged in a very earnest discussion with a big red jolly Father Christmas, in close to 40 degree sunshine and asked him for a big hug!
FAVOURITE LOCATION YOU’VE RACED IN? I have to say Kona, Hawaii is top of the pops for the sunshine, sea, dolphins and of course, the history….but it’s very hard to beat the experience that I had racing in Wales last year for home crowd support!
BEST ADVICE YOU’VE RECEIVED? “Do Less”. I have to admit that, though I appreciate that this is good advice - I’m not so great at following it most of the time!
IT’S OUR ROUND AT THE BAR,WHAT ARE YOU DRINKING? Ahh - that’s cruel. Right now it’ll be a lime and soda. After Ironman Germany it’ll be a dirty great pint of strong Belgian lager!
