While there have been plenty of titles and even a no.1 ranking, a Grand Slam title still eludes Caroline Wozniacki. The Dane spoke to Luke Bradshaw about her continued quest for slam success and how close she is to achieving it, all the while trying to improve her golf swing along the way.
ow do you view your season so far? Of course it hasn’t been my best start
to a season, but I feel like I am improving every week. My practice has been great and I am confi dent that my hard work will pay off soon. The season is less than half way through, and I still expect that I will have a very good season.
Did you outline specifi c aims beforehand? Or have you made some since? I didn’t really set any specifi c goals with regards to ranking or tournament titles. My targets are smaller things, like certain things that I’m working on in my game, and as I continue to improve, the titles and higher ranking will be a by-product of the hard work.
Are there any tournaments, or periods in the tour, that you look forward to in particular?
Honestly, I always really look forward to the hard court season – that’s my best surface and where I play my best tennis.
With such a sporting family, can we assume a regular job was never really on the cards?
Hahaha yeah, your assumption is probably right! I always dreamed of being a professional athlete, and my family played a big part in making that dream come true.
Why tennis? Why not football or volleyball instead, like your parents? I was actually introduced to football and volleyball fi rst because that’s what they played, and to be honest, I was pretty good at both! However, once I started playing tennis, I knew it was the sport for me. My dad felt I had the talent to make it in tennis and I loved that it was an individual sport.
