Caroline Wozniacki - Tennis Player ON THE TOUR, WHO ...
No team mates to let you down? Hahaha, yeah, but then more pressure on yourself – no one to help you either!
And now how’s your golf swing coming along, do you play at all with Rory? I’m guessing you probably saw my shot at the Master’s Par 3 tournament then? It wasn’t my best, but I swear I am usually a lot better! I don’t get to play too much golf with Rory because I am so busy with my tennis, but I enjoy playing when I have the time.
Are you still living in Monaco? With Polish ancestry, growing up in Denmark, where do you consider home? I do still live in Monaco, but Denmark will always be my home. I still have a lot of friends still in Denmark and I love going home to see them.
If we went to Odense on holiday, what would you recommend we see/do? There are so many things to see and do in Odense, but the two places you have to visit are the Egeskov Castle and the Odense Zoo!
Do you spend most free time with? Do you look up to the most? Is the biggest joker?
Do you enjoy watching the most? Do you like playing against?
Is the toughest opponent? Has given you the best advice?
Probably Agnieszka Radwanska and Urszula Radwanska Serena Williams is one of the greatest champions our sport has ever seen. Me of course! Roger Federer is amazing to watch. I love playing Agnieszka Radwanska because she is a very good friend and a great competitor. That is hard because there are so many tough opponents, but I would have to say Serena Williams. Steffi Graf has given me some great advice throughout the years and she was also my idol growing up!
You had great success as a junior, for tennis players is the transition from junior to professional a difficult one? Is it what you expected? That transition from a junior to a professional is very difficult, and I think every player struggles with it. From my own personal experience, I was prepared for the transition. I knew it would be a very difficult one, but I had a great team behind me to encourage me through the difficult stretches.
Can we assume the number one aim is to win a Grand Slam?
Obviously winning a Grand Slam is a goal of mine, but my main focus right now is to just continue to work hard and improve, then perhaps the Slam will come as a result of that.
And how close are you to achieving that? I believe that I have the ability to win a Grand Slam at any time. I have been putting in the work on and off the court, and it is just a matter of time before it all comes together.
Are the rankings important to you, or more a by- product of what you’re doing anyway? Is it important to you to get the No.1 ranking back? The rankings are exactly that, just a by-product of
get the number one ranking back, but it is not my goal at the moment
what I am doing. I would love to get the number one ranking back, but it is not my goal at the moment. I am just taking things match by match, and if I get back to number one, then great!
In terms of the equipment you play with, how much of say do you get with Yonex with product development? To be honest, Yonex make such amazing rackets that I didn’t need to give much input on development. Of course I get to select which one of their rackets I want to play with, but that was an
I would love to
easy decision for me. The racket I am playing with now is easily the best racket I have ever played with!
What specific features do you look for in a racket personally? What do you need it to do? My racket is slightly head light, and that allows me to get a lot of racket head speed on my shot. My racket also has a large sweet spot, which allows me to get power even on off-centre hits.
Are those the features you recommend to young players, or beginners, when choosing their racket? Are there certain things they should look out for? It really depends on the player. Some players like head heavy rackets and some players like head light rackets. I think it is important to try a few different models before deciding on exactly which racket you like. The younger players should probably go with a lighter racket until they get older and stronger.
Is it true you’re a Liverpool FC fan? How did that come about? Yes it is true! I was fortunate enough to visit the club and meet the team, and I have been a huge fan ever since. I am on the road so much that I don’t get to catch too many games, but I definitely watch every chance I get!
