PHOTO BY WAYNE SITTNER: CHLORINE CAR AT STOCKERTOWN, PA: MAY 1983
The prototype chlorine car (above) is shown with its rack of small containers. For companies that need smaller amounts of dangerous chemicals this is a better way of transport. In the case of Meg-A- Watts (left) a special hazardous chemical was shipped to its facility from Philadel- phia for its transformers. The small tanks of the chemical can be kept at Meg-A- Watts until they are empty. The Bachmann 40-foot flat car kit and supplies (below) are what is needed to build the model.
the wood floor. To create a steel deck, I used Plastruct tread plate cut to size (4′-0″×7′-0″), which gives the appear- ance of sections. A smaller piece fills in the middle section. Once the steel deck was constructed, I painted my car a dark blue color and the trucks black. I also added a coupler lift bar. The other items needed are pipe rail- ing (Central Valley fencing), 80-scale feet of Plastruct ¹/₁₆″ L structural angle and K&S half inch brass or aluminum
