Security Filters A special project group has been put together to design the security filters which will provide optimum security with the shortest possible wait times for passengers. Security scanners using advanced imaging technology (see picture) will be located in all security lanes. Schiphol is striving to provide a screening facility designed to diminish stress levels; a streamlined Schiphol security service, delivered in a comfortable area with wooden walls, smooth lighting and a relaxed atmosphere. The choices of colours and materials that will be used have also given much thought. After completing the screening process, passengers will proceed to Passport Control before entering the airside lounges. The new filters are to be installed in five designated central security areas: Departure Hall 1, the mezzanines in Departure Halls 2 & 3, the expanded second floor in the EF-area, and in the new GH-building between the G- and H-piers. With construction starting in August 2014, the plan is for all the security filters to be operational by June 2015.

The Security Scan: Safe, Secure and Customer-friendly An innovative solution is the deployment of the aforementioned advanced imaging technology - the Security Scan. The Security Scan works on the basis of harmless

a targeted pat down search, only examining those locations where the objects are identified as being located. As the Security Scan reduces the need for full pat down searches, the Security Scan turns passenger screening into a more customer-friendly procedure and detects objects made of all kinds of materials, not only metal.

millimetre waves that are reflected by the body. After the passenger has been screened for two seconds in the cabin, the monitor alongside the Security Scan highlights any objects on a person’s body, using a stylised human figure. No revealing images of the passenger are created! The automated threat detection algorithm will indicate to the security screener whether an object has been identified. If so, the screener will perform

Security Filter in Departure Hall 1 Redesigned The security filter in Departure Hall 1 will also be totally redesigned and will become twice as large as it is now, resulting in the relocation of a number of stores in Lounge 1. This is necessary to accommodate the growing number of travellers, and to maintain compliance with future European laws and regulations. The works in the Lounge and the construction of the filter will be completed by summer 2014.
